My Credit Crunch poem Read aloud
Credit crunch 2009
I used to buy and spend and lend
But now that habit’s at an end.
I was a worker through and through
redundant 3 times, joined the queue
of interviews, CVs and such...
Life was such fun, now not so much.
A paltry job with paltry money
My big car gone, no jam no honey.
No Waitrose or Designer shops.
A new development is bus stops.
These are often drafty places
exposed, as shelters broken, chilly faces.
Waiting for a bus seems hours,
inclement weather, snow and showers.
Matching clothes no longer matter
Need body warmth so teeth don’t chatter.
Organic vegs, once essential
come from allotment. What potential!
The battles that I have with slugs
and snails and greedy stealing bugs.
Warm hands around a tea filled mug
about my crumbly compost, I am smug.
Charity shops and car boot sales
finding bargains, never fails,
Recycling? Dig out rusty bike
and wonder did I really used to like
to cycle to the many places I have been?
Can I find that energy I had so keen?
The credit crunch has challenged my potential
I find a range of different things essential.
