CS Hiking on Sunday the 10th of march - who`s in ? where do we go ?
Posted March 5th, 2013 - 11:38 am by from Paris, France (Permalink)
Hi everyone,

Some CS friends of HK seem to be already ready for a hiking day on Sunday the 10th of march - if anyone wants to join, you are more than welcome !

since I am not from Hong Kong, I don't know which place could be adapted (and beautiful to see, not too crowed etc ..) for a one-day hike. So basically, it would be great if somebody form the HK community could join us and be the guide !

First of all we need :
- a meeting time
- a precise meeting place

Cheers ,

Elsa

Hi!

I'd love to join you on sunday!

I am new in HK so I don't know any good places for hiking. Hope there 'll be some people that can suggest meeting point etc.

Cheers,

Marie

Hey !

But a CS friend told me about the Shing Mun Reservoir.
http://www.hkwalkers.net/eng/trail_list/walkers_companion/Shing_Mun_valley/introduction.htm
It seems maybe a little bit short and easy, what do you think ?

Maybe this one would be better ? : http://www.hkwalkers.net/eng/trail_list/country_trail/Yuen_Tsuen_Ancient_Trail/introduction.htm

I also have this link but it does not work from China, I think .. (or it is too long..) : http://www.discoverhongkong.com/promotions/hikes_walks/eng/pages/e-book.pdf

I don't have time right now to look further into the different options.

Let us know if you find something in it !

See you on Sunday anyways.

PS : I am still looking for a place to stay in HK ( from 8h to 12th in the morning), even for one or two nights.. does anyone of you has a coach ? I have a sleepingbag and lots of smiles :)

I won't be able to message until Friday since I travel from Shanghai to HK from tomorrow until Friday .. -

But if no one proposes anything else later, lets say - for now- meeting point Tsuen Wan MTR on Sunday at 9.30 - I have read the indications for a 6 hours hike to get to the Shing Mun Reservoir.

Cheers,

Elsa

Hi everyone,

I love hiking around Hong Kong and discover the beautiful landscape :] I always want to check out Double Haven, however it is not easy to reach. We either need to walk there or rent a boat for a day to arrive. But trust me, this place is worthwhile going. Haven't been there yet but would be great to check it out together :D

Below is the info:

Looking forward to your reply!

Hi everyone !

I am arrived in HK ! :)
And met a english guy in the train who may join us on Sunday.

Fong Yuen Fonnie Tang, the place you are talking about seems to be wonderful but I think that we don t have the time on Sunday if we want to begin at 12 to reach it and be back in the evening.

The others, maybe a vote between two propositions, in order to have our choice made for tomorrow :

SHING MUN = Meeting at 12 at TSUEN WAN MTR
http://www.hkwalkers.net/eng/trail_list/walkers_companion/Shing_Mun_valley/introduction.htm

TUNG CHUNG TO TAI O = meeting at 12 at TUNG CHUNG MTR (lantau)

See you

Hi Elsa,

Yeah, you're right. I confirmed the transportation route, we will need to rent a boat to arrive Double Haven. I guess i will do that next time.

But i would love to join you on sunday. Vote for the Tai O route :] here's my no. 67799496.

Cheers,

Hi eveyone, hope you are doing well.
It seems that the Tai O trail gets most of the votes, so let s go for it!

BUT Nanami gave me some advice, and I think we should meet up a little bit earlier. I copy paste :

`Tai O is a beautiful place!! Jut a suggestion that its better that you start the hike earlier ard 8am cos it will defiantly take more than 6hrs(sun sets around 5.30pm)

You may try the Lantau Trail starting from Stage 4 -Ngoh Ping (pass the big Buddha, there's a toilet at the left but go straight thru a tea garden. Entrance to Stage 4 is on the right side. You can see some distinctive pillars opposite the entrance)From Tung Chung, take bus 11 or 23 to get to Ngoh Ping. Alternatively, the cable car HKD94(one way) Stage 4-6 is ard 14km..once in Tai O(Stage 6)you can take the same buses bk to civilization.`

SO : what about A MEETING AT 10.30 am at MTR TUNG CHUNG EXIT B.not to early but not too late ...
My number is +852 55 85 09 52.

OK ??

Lets be ready for this 6 hours hike.

Can anyone print the insturction/ a map of the website ? Othrwise we will do without it.

See you guys ! (and bring water ...)

Elsa

I'll bring my map of the trail. It will help some. But HK trails are usually very well marked. Here's some more info:

From MTR Tung Chung Station, Exit B, walk for approximately three minutes to Tung Chung Fire Station. Walk down Yu Tung Road, passing by Yat Tung Estate and, at the end, turn right onto a path and start the hike via the Hau Wong Temple.

Looking forward! Very excited to do this.
