Free Tickets for Classical Concert at Konzerthaus

A number of free tickets for the New Year’s concert to celebrate the launch of Ireland's EU Presidency is available for lovers of classical music. Tickets are strictly on a first-come-first-served basis. There is no guarantee that everyone gets a ticket. To avail of free tickets (max. two per person), you should go to the left ticket counter (linker Abendkasse-Bereich) of the Konzerthaus on Gendarmenmarkt from 19:00 p.m. onwards. Your unique codeword is "irisches Monatsbuch" (that means "Irish Month Book", a newsletter of the Embassy of Ireland). Details for what promises to be a very memorable gala concert can be found below.

The internationally renowned Irish Chamber Orchestra will perform classical works by Irish and German composers under the baton of German conductor Jörg Widmann. Irish opera singer Ailish Tynan will also feature in the programme.

The European Cultural Foundation EUROPA MUSICALE in cooperation with the Irish Presidency of the EU, through the Embassy of Ireland in Berlin, and endorsed by the Representation of the European Commission presents a launch of Presidency concert on 21 January 2013 at the Konzerthaus on Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin.

This celebration has a special significance in the context of the European Union’s Nobel Peace Prize and 2013 the European Year of Citizens. As its Presidency of the EU begins in 2013, Ireland wants, through this concert, to send a positive message to other European countries. European Cultural Foundation EUROPA MUSICALE has arranged for German radio station Deutschlandradio to record and broadcast the concert. The concert will be broadcast on 27 January 2013 on radio throughout Germany. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Geneva will facilitate a worldwide live broadcast of the concert through the Eutelsat satellite.
