Hi!

I'm a Swedish girl coming to NY for the weekend. Really up for some salsa. I see a lot of tips for salsa on 2 and I am up for the challenge, but I really would like some tip on a Cuban place as well. Danced for about 15 years, but only go out to have fun nowdays, if anyone have tips or wants to join me =)

There aren't many places for cuban salsa in nyc unfortunately. Sometimes on Sundays there's cuban salsa at Sazon, but there won't be this weekend or next. And on Tuesday nights there's cuban salsa at Favela Cubana, but I guess you won't be here. If you're looking for classes though, there are rueda classes on Sundays at Piel Canela, and if you show up to the first class and are advanced enough for the second class, i think you can stay without paying for another class. They're very fun and the people are really friendly, here's the link if you're interested.

If you're up for going dancing on2 though, there are lots of places. Here are two salsa calendars that list a bunch of events this weekend.

I'm going to the abakua social tomorrow night, if anyone wants to come let me know! the dancers there are amazing!! then on saturday, salsa mania is pretty good, there's a mix of different levels, some very advanced, some haven't been dancing that long. It's a pretty friendly social and if you're trying out dancing on2 for the first time, it's probably not a bad place. I'm sure there are people there who can dance on1, or would be happy to help you with on2. On Sunday, there's the LVG social, where there are a lot of really great dancers. That social is awesome, but it might not be the best place to go if you're not that comfortable dancing on2. On Mondays there's salsa at Session 73. I love that place, it's very friendly and there's quite a mix of dancers. There are some that are very advanced, and there are definitely some that only dance on1. Also, they have a live salsa band every other week. Let me know if you need any more info, I hope you're able to enjoy the nyc salsa scene this weekend! Even if you don't really dance on2, just watching the dancers at some of these places is really wonderful too.

Wow sweet, thanks to the both of you for all the info!!! First girls who has replied to almost anything here on CS =)

Salsa socials ARE always the best, but I'll be totally jetlagged when I arrive tomorrow so saturday and sunday are better days. And I'm leaving at 4 am tuesday morning so monday it would be party and go.

I would love to take you up on your offer Cecile for Iguana on Saturday. I will inbox you my number =)

The Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra is playing tonight at SOB, I love the venue and the band, definitely you should try to make it.
