Salsa CUBANA - where to dance?
Posted March 23rd, 2010 - 5:41 am by from Hamburg, Germany (Permalink)
Hi, I already posted this message in a NYC board but maybe it makes more sense to post in here:

I am staying in NY for another week until the 29th of March and am quite deprived of dancing by now.

Last thursday I went to Club Cache on Broadway just to find out that I am not able to dance with NY style dancers (my spinning technique is non-existant) :o(

So I am desperately looking for a place to dance salsa cubana - please tell me if you know something!

Thanks!
Maria

Hi, I have pretty much the same thing here in NY. I can't dance NY style, I'm sorry. I need CUBAN.
We still don't know if in this Cafe Iguana people dance cuban salsa or NY style, do we?

This is what I found:
http://www.salsapower.com/cities/us/newyork.htm
It's a list of bars mainly with cuban stuff. Supposedly.
I just don't know how up to date salsapower.com is about NY. For example about my city (Budapest) it is not very fresh, all the info is 2 years old.

Anybody has the info?

Cool, thanks for checking it.
That sounds like NY style to me though. As that is the general way around here - undersandably.
Waiting for your answer

whole lot of spinning doesn"t sound good ;o( ... it is apparently NY style.

Seems really difficult to find any place with Cuban style dancers.

Well, I think that whole lot of spinning does sound good and looks good, I just can't dance it.

Last night I went to see Havana Central but they were having a private party. They said that people do dance Cuban there, though the dancefloor is not very large. I'll try my luck some other night again.
