Hey guys ... I am interested in a few languages and I thought I would comment on something I really liked.

When we stayed in Barcelona for a period of time, we attended a English-Spanish conversation group with a great model:

Three topics would be given like: 1. Introduction; 2. Where you live and; 3. What you do for work.

Four people would sit at a table, an 5 minute 'egg cooking' timer would be placed in the center of the table. The timer gets turned on, and for five minutes, it's only Spanish. People introduce themselves in Spanish. All four people. The timer buzzes, and they switch to English. People who speak very little Spanish, HAVE to try but they take a long time ... so when they switched to English, they could speak more fluently.

Then the timer buzzes again, and they switch back to Spanish, but this time with the second topic: Where do you live? ... Spanish then English.

Each language speaker helps and corrects pronunciation and grammar for those non-speakers.

After the three topics, you switch tables and you get different people and you do it again, so you have a time to practice what you learned.

Usually, we switched tables three times and practiced the same things three times with different people.

At the end of the meeting, people are asked for suggestions for three other topics that they use on day to day life, and those are the topics used at the next meeting. This gives people a chance to read up on their books or manuals at home and come 'prepared'. Usually, the introduction is kept every time because there are always new people.

I'm not sure if it would work with three languages at the same time ... probably not, but it was a great model that we found only in Barcelona and in REALLY made you practice things until you got them right because they are real conversations and you have up to 4-5 people correcting you and giving you examples and pronunciation in a very short period of time.

If anyone is interested ... we have a party tonight, and you guys are all welcome to come by and meet other CSurfers. Perhaps we can talk about how the language exchanges can work or if anyone has another idea.

I am interested in learning some French, perhaps some German since I work with three Germans ... and keep on practicing my Brazilian Portuguese.

(If interested in coming to the party tonight, check the forum or the event, it's listed under birthday/tequila party)

Otherwise we can keep talking over posts like this.

Chat soon

Carlos, that sounds like a plan:

Count me in. I hope others get in on this as it seems we are both offering English and Spanish to the learning experience.
