Frieburg/Munich to Vienna...
Posted May 1st, 2009 - 9:56 pm by from Be'er Sheva, Israel (Permalink)
Hey all,

I will be arriving to Vienna from either Frieburg or Munich (yet to be determined according to my travel plans, which tend to be unstable ;-) and since I'm not from the area, I'm looking for any info that might be useful/helpful.

-Is anyone coming from the area and can offer a ride..
-Does anyone know of my options as to how to do the transfer from one place to the other(the cheaper the better)
-Is anyone coming from the same area and would like to join me?
-Is there anything I might be forgetting and you could help me remember?

Thanks in advance for any info or advice,

first: have fun in vienna! the weather is quite nice at the moment, so you can enjoy the parks we have here.

- try to stay in the inner districts - then you can walk nearly everything. but usually tourists stay in those districts because there are not that many reasons to go to the outer ones.
- when you come to the train station "westbahnhof" - you´re directly at the "inner districts". so you probably won´t need "a ride".
- to go by tram/bus/metro: there are daily tickets called "shopping tickets" for the civil services - they last from 8 till 8 or something like that and cost 5 euro. then you´ve got the 24/36/72-hours-tickets. they´re not very cheap but then you can move in the whole city. (try not to buy the single tickets - they´re very expensive in comparison - about 1,80€ or something like that). in short: www.wienerlinien.at has an english site as well and they tell you all the options.

i´ve got quite busy times at the moment - but if you´ve got questions - go ahead and write!

have fun!

ps: a beer in a pub in vienna costs about 3,20-3,50 €. so everything more is an expensive place ;o)

Hey, Thanks for the info..

Do you have any idea bout the best way to get to Vienna FROM Frieburg or Munich? That's my biggest issue at the moment.

Hey Tom,

I would suggest to check first on the meeting page for people who offer a ride.

e.g. Florian http://www.couchsurfing.org/profile.html?id=3F88AL5 is offering a ride from Munich.

Another cheap option would be car-sharing (Mitfahrgelegenheit).

Sometimes there are also cheap offers from Deutsche Bahn from Munich to Vienna.

If you need some tips for hitchhiking - check here:

Thank you so much Evelyn, I never saw the option to look for people that offering rides, it seems there are a few coming from Germany.

The ride sharing sounds like a great idea as well, but as far as I can tell it's in German which sort of presents a language barrier for me unfortunately (hopefully to be breached in the not too far future)

I'll look into the Deutsche Bahn as well, that might work if I can't find a ride..

Thanks again for all the info,
