In an effort to make a permanent mark on Californian society, we are changing the way Californians say "Cheers!" one drink at a time!
Fortuna is taken from the old Californio saying "Buena Fortuna!" The Spanish settlers of California believed they were discovering a lost land filled with riches--the mystical land known as "el dorado". (of course they believed every part of the Americas was el dorado). It was here that they sought their fortuna. And though they did not discover California's hidden treasures of gold in the Sierra foothills, they did discover that it was a land abounding with fortune of other types. Since then and to this day, generations of migrants from all over the world have come here to find their piece of fortuna.
Help us revive and popularize this badass phrase! Use it and spread it every time you pick up a drink. And invite all your Californian friends to this group. We are also on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=logo#/group.php?gid=27665298745).
It isn't just a replacement for "cheers." It is a way of expressing our unique Californian identity.
