New England Aquarium February School Vacation Week (Feb 19th-26th)
Posted February 6th, 2011 - 11:58 pm by from Boston, United States (Permalink)
Hey all,

Here's a "one-shot" volunteer opportunity for the New England Aquarium. They get really busy when schools have vacation, so they are looking for some extra help during this time.

When: February School Vacation Week (Saturday, February 19th through Saturday, February 26th)

Shifts: 2+ hour shift per volunteer during the hours of 9am - 3pm on any of the above days.

Examples of some Positions:

Main Lobby Doors -
Position Location: Either inside or outside of the main lobby doors where the visitors enter the building.
Position Description: Open the main lobby doors for all entering visitors and Aquarium staff. Be welcoming and offer a friendly greeting such as "Hi! Welcome to the Aquarium. Enjoy your visit". If able, direct visitors with Aquarium tickets or barcoded passes to the ticket lines on the left as they enter. Direct Members to the Membership Desk or to the Information Desk. To assist with energy conservation in the building, please close the doors as soon as the visitors pass through and minimize the amount of time that the door is held open. This position will require volunteers to wear warm clothes!

Parking Validation -
Position Location: At the parking validation table, inside the first half of the white tent.
Position Description: Greet visitors as they wait in line and pass by. As visitors come to the table ask them if they need any parking validated and validate for the appropriate garage. Training will be provided about the local garages and how to stamp/validate the tickets. This is a seated position.

Stroller Room -
Position Location: The stroller room is located behind the Information Desk in the main lobby.
Position Description: When a visitor arrives with a stroller, give him/her a friendly greeting while collecting the stroller and giving him/her a Claim Tag. Tape the other part of the Claim Tag to the stroller and park the stroller so that the Claim Tags are easily visible. When a visitor returns to collect their stroller, collect the Claim Tag from them, find the corresponding stroller, and remove the other half of the Claim Tag. Return the stroller to the visitor, tape the two claim tags together, and place them in the Claim Tag box. Remember to thank the visitor for visiting the Aquarium and wish them a nice day.
