hello everybody..

does anybody drive to Istanbul from Greece (Athens/Thessaloniki) for June..

please let me know, am intreasted to make this trip..
but flights are quit expensive and i think greek trains stop this routes
(probably because of the economical bullshit)

so i guess there're not many options..
i know by car will be too hard, but having company & share the expensses might help..

thanks in advance, greets for Greece!

Hi Γιώργος,

I'm curently hosting Stradis (http://www.couchsurfing.org/profile.html?id=BEFP9RA)
and one of his friend Sotiris.

They came from Thessaloniki by bus. They paid EUR 60,00 for two way ticket for one person.

May be this will help.

Kind regards,

hı george
most comfartable is car to reach here as from athens to istanbul you drive in autobahn however if you can t fınd patner it canbe borıng and expensive
yes there are many buses from thessalonıkı to istanbul operated by dıffrent turkısh companies but also there is a traın to pithion ( greek turk border )whıxh slidly cheap
also u can come to kastanies ( turk border near adrıanapolis) and walk to turkey and ın edirne u can get a local bus to istanbul whıch cost around 8-10 euros
ı was doıng like that when ı was student ı use local traın or bus to border and pass boder walkıng and take traın or bus from another country like that u can save some money more
enjoy your trip in turkey

Just saw this post,

I'll chip in as well.

As far as I know, crossing the border on foot is no longer possible. I'm not sure why but it's been prohibited. (I have past the border on foot once)

However, if crossing the border on foor is what you really want to do, get yourself to the border and ask some truck driver for a favour. I'm sure someone will let you cross the border in their truck or car.

I know you said this is not what you are planning to do, but just in case you decide to take that route, this is something you should know.

I agree with the previous posts, bus is the cheapest option and probably much faster than the train.
