HOW TO: arrive from SAW late at night?
Posted July 5th, 2011 - 9:55 pm by from Brasileia, Brazil (Permalink)
hi!
i'm flying to istanbul in aug, but the cheapest flight i found arrives on a monday, by 22:10, at SAW airport.
i found some great info here already, but if i got it right, my only non-taxi option would be the E-10 line, and i'd be at KADIKÖY by 0h30.
i still don't have a host, then i don't know where exactly i'll have to go after that.
my question is: how easy would it be to move around the city by that time? are there any buses? do they go to the other side of town?

thanks for your attention.

Hi Alex
I think you should find a "special bus" until midnight.
The name of the compagnie is "HAVAS" (pronouncing havach)
This bus is going from SAW direct to Taxim square. Very convenient. Usually this bus is going every 30 minutes and takes 1 hour or 1h30 to get taxim. On a monday night there is no traffic it should be 1 hour. Price should be around 15 TL (7 euros). You can change money in the airport.
But as soon as you arrive you should run to take this havas (it's frent of the airport) because the last one is at 00h00
This is the link of havas you can check :
http://www.havas.net/en/shuttle-parking/istanbul-sabiha-gokcen-airport/
Look at the end of the web page "from taxim / from SAW"
Then Taxim is the heart of the city, but public transportation at midnight is not easy, I think there is no more buses. But you should find "dolmus" (small yellow bus) or taxi (if you're not going far away they are not very expensive) or take a small and cheap hotel close to taxim you can find some.
Good luck !

This reply is probably too late for the OP.

I got the HAVAS bus from SAW to Taksim just yesterday. The bus driver said it takes about 55 mins, and the bus I was on was in Taksim in about 50 mins. My guess is depending on traffic the bus could take anywhere between 50 mins and 1.5 hours.

The cost was 12TL. A normal IETT bus from SAW to Taksim would be 3.30TL and probably takes ages, IMO the difference is definitely worth it.
