hopefully i am not violating any group rules with posting a request here! i though i might have some more chance finding filmbuffs around. so the thing is: we are two hungarian cinema students from budapest, visiting the berlinale film festival this year in february. we would very much like to find a host who is also attending the event at least partially and/or shares our same interest about movies (probably we are going to talk a lot about films in those days.) we are both attending university in budapest, i have a specialization in theoretical linguistics with a film studies minor while attila, my friend (who’s nothing like attila the hun, but i am sure he enjoys jokes on this), has a specialization on film studies.
attila particularly enjoys anything that is american! he follows closely their political decisions and news, he has been living in america for a while and still has relatives overseas. he co-authors a hungarian blog that features reviews of movies and he has been to film festivals in prague and countless press screenings in hungary. he has a great affinity for not refusing mainstream for it’s ‘mainstreamity’, and this makes him a fan of (very) popular music as well as classical, contemporary art and tv series. he has his own peculiar take on each subject which is generally provocative in a thought-provoking kind of way.
i am noémi, i have been using couchsurfing for quite a while now, i enjoy traveling and it makes me superhappy to visit another capital this year. it’s my first time in germany so i am particularly excited. i would want to know more about the countries housing issues and berlin’s squat scene. i have been told it’s magical and i have also attended a few discussion evenings on housing issues and abandoned places in budapest which subject is now raising awareness because of government politics against homeless people. i am unsure of how much time we’ll have for sight-seeing, but we sure enjoy a great night out (though i also enjoy sleeping way to much) and i think for both of us to look around in the contemporary art scene is a must (even if it means just to visit the most touristic museums.) I would also very much like to visit the Jewish sights and synagogues particularly to attend evening services.
even if you can't host us through the whole thing, we would appreciate spending a few days with locals. we both speak acceptable english and enjoy people who are tolerably loud, nice kind of impulsive (and intelligent and fond of exploring, but that's too evident.)
