An update from Cynthia Elk
Posted June 21st, 2009 - 3:20 am by from Mercer Island, United States (Permalink)
Hi Everyone,
Cynthia needs our prayers, thoughts and energy right now.

Here is a message from her - I am passing it on as she doesn't have a working modem, as you will see below:

Let's all send her an encouraging note:

After 2 almost "back-to-back" trips ... With several
"action packed" work days sandwiched in between... I
returned to I returned home to some tornado damages in
my apartment that was 4 days old! Roof leak that
flooded my bathroom (and was a filthy mess) front mud
and debri from flodding on my sidewalk and inside
stairwell (that no other tenant had even bothered to
air out!! OMG) ... The power was gas were out for
several days (and I see evidence that my freezer
completely melted and refroze again).

My modem needs reset since the storm, and I was away
without internet access for the previous 4 days!! I am
getting by ... Reading CS messages and posts from
others but have many, many people whom I have written,
replied, or friended ....

Everyone will be hearing from me aventually.
Fortunately my damages are not severe... But exhusting
and frustrating right now!! Cursed inconvenience.
Please. Let the 50 travellers know I'm still alive
here. As I finisH this note, it' s starting to rain
again. Cross yoour fingers that the roof does't leak
agAin... After it took 2 hours to cleAn up....
More later , Cynthia

By the way, I miss all of you. It was fun, but too short!

More later, Katrina has a gig, Mom has to be part of the fan club!

Connie, Thanks for forwarding the letter from cynthia. What a hardship for her. I'll write to her to give her some encouragement. I hope she has tennants insurance. It is cheap and can rescue what ever damage you have. How are you? As I recall, it is your daughter that has a gig. Congratulations to both of you. If she is ever in Tacoma, I'll fill in the parent role for you, or meet you here. Have a great time with Katrina. Lets stay in touch.

Hi Tom,
If you or other area couchsurfers want to hear Katrina, her next gig with her band Soul Kata, unplugged.

Monday, June 29th
7:30 - 10:30 pm

Tula's Jazz Club
2214 2nd Ave
Seattle
www.tulas.com

I'll be making this a couchsurfing event. Her pianist, Josh Rawlings is also a couchsurfer.

That would be great to get them some gigs in Tacoma. I know there are a couple of good jazz clubs in your area.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
Connie

Oh poor Cynthia, what a rotten thing to happen. I have no real idea how much damage a hurricane can do but having seen the way American houses are built I am happy mine is made of stone and bakes tiles on the roof.
I know that water damage is the worst thing. It takes so long to dry out! I hope your insurance pays up big time. Even the damage to your freezer ( and the smell!!!) will be hundreds of dollars if you are unlucky. Please make sure you throw out everything that has been in the freezer!!.
Good luck with everything and I am thinking of you !!

Thanks everyone for your support and encouragement! I have re-connected after significant efforts, and have much to catch up on, CouchSurfing and otherwise. I guess we really take things for granted .... until we have to do without services and technology. How spoiled we are, yes?

Cynthia,

I'm happy to hear that you are regaining the many things we all take for granted.

Based on your philosophy about nightwear, at least you're always ready for looking good at the hospital. :)

Blessings,
Flora
