Summer Performance Art Project - Call for Volunteers!
The Earth Melon Bay Theatre Troupe's summer project is currently in pre-production!. We are now calling for volunteers, who will be responsible for three simultaneous workshops at the Urdu Community Centre this summer. Through the work, volunteers will also learn how to conduct community projects as well as exercise knowledge of performance art and education. The project aims to develop social ties between ethnic minorities and locals through performance art. The Centre started to provide service to Indian and Pakistani communities in Hong Kong since January 2009. It is now a registered charitable organization. It is located at 1 San Lau Street, Hung Hom.
The Project workshops are:
* Music & Song
* Stage Performance & Acting
* Craft & Set Design.
The Craft workshops will produce set, costume, props, musical instruments and more. The Stage Performance workshops will develop the narrative of a fable about migration, to create a unique performance grammar which sets scenes in a mysterious yet familiar time and space. There is a large framework for improvisation. Dance will also be a major focus for development of the performance. The Music workshops will teach children basic rhythms and tones to help them create sound and music suitable for this performance. Attendants of these workshops is in the number of dozens. The focus of the workshops is to create and develop a performing community towards a cohesive production.
Workshops will be held in the Urdu Community Centre and in some of it's surrounding locations. They will last for 9 weeks, from June to August 2010, two hours per day. Volunteers will be using English and Cantonese through the workshops; each workshop involves 4 volunteers to work at any given time. Volunteers would also be involved as a core group in the continuous development of an actual stage production. In total 18 to 20 volunteers would make up the teams. Besides the workshop volunteers, we also need volunteers responsible for administrative works, public relations, promotions, photographers as well as documentations.
The public performance of the production is in October
