Iceland roundtrip end of June/July 2013
Posted October 29th, 2012 - 4:59 pm by from Berlin, Germany (Permalink)
Dear fellow Couchsurfers!

7 years ago I had the chance to travel along the south of Iceland. Since then I've been thinking about a roundtrip discovering the wonderful landscape of Iceland for at least 1 month.

I have a drivers license and will be 26 by then + would either consider sleeping in tents or in hostels depending on the weather (or even couchsurfing, depending on finding hosts) and am looking for travel partners!!

Unfortunately I dont speek icelandic, other than that I love music, nature, easy-going people, humour and an open mind :-). So feel free to message me or post here if you are interested and we can get in touch to see if it fits :-).

I am looking forward to hearing from you!!!!!!

Sorry everyone - I havent been logged in at Couchsurfing for such a long time!!! Now I will check more often, and am very happy about the posts here :-) I STILL havent made more specific plans, besides booking the flights. I would be very interested to spend the icelandic national holiday june 17th in reyjkavik and start the tour clockwise or counterclockwise afterwards - but not even this HAS to be like this, so i am open for people joining!!
@Madhan, english is no problem :-) I think my biggest "problem" is deciding about where to go at what time!!

Heey! Sounds good!
My travel updates:
After checking out hostels and seeing the prices, I've decided to try and camp in a tent I will bring unless it's raining for a long time ;-) - anyway I made a reservation for the Reykjavik-hostel http://www.hostel.is/Hostels/Reykjavikcity/ for 2 nights (13th - 15th June).I wanna start traveling for the road trip from Reykjavik counterclockwise on the RING-road and am still planing on keeping it very spontaneous which makes it a little difficult to coordinate with others in advance tho.
If I find some people who celebrate the national holiday on the 18th of June in Reykjavik, I will stay a bit and start the roadtrip on the 19th :-).
Keep me updated if anyone feels like doing the same thing at around the same time!
Sunny greetings from Berlin!

Hi Sarah,

I've always wanted to go to Iceland for a while and since I recently quit my job and therefore will be free in June this is the best chance for me to fulfil this dream :)
To say it briefly, I haven't booked anything yet but I would like to travel Iceland for about one month in the same period as you do (June/July) and I am on my own. I wanna start in Reykjavik for some days but then try to see as much as possible from the whole island.
Now I also found out how expensive this might get as well as many hostels don't have any bed available in this period. Nevertheless, I think it won't be a problem to find a couchsurfing host in Reykjavik but I was also wondering if I should try and camp. But the next problem would be to get a tent I can carry for some time and I am also not sure about how the weather really will be there in June/July :)
Actually I really would love to just go to Iceland without planning so much in advance but at some point it seems to be inevitable...
What was your plan of getting around? A car would be so cool but again it's really expensive.

Well, you see, I am not yet that organised as you are, but I really wanna book my flights as soon as possible and then go ahead with my planning.
Anyway, it would be great to hear more from you and your plans and maybe we can meet then in Iceland as I am also really looking for some travel partners as well!

Greets from Stuttgart,

(I know, I could have written in German, but I think it's not so kind for the other guys trying to read the posts...)

Hi Hanna!

Nice hearing from you!
Well you mention pretty much the same problems that I had, yet I ignored them ;-). The costs made it now very easy for me to think "ok, I will carry my tent with me and hope I can find nice unknown people at each place where I can lock away my belongings while going hiking etc" in other words: I gave up planning more! If rain and wind will be my biggest problem, then I am still in hope for people who might help out with a last-minute-couch/spot on the floor under a roof ;). As well apparently in the north it doesnt rain that much.
My plan of getting around was by bus since cars are so expensive (and pretending to be flexible since I have my place to sleep always with me ;-D). Nonetheless if enough people are to be found, I would of course love traveling by car too :-) I think I will set me up a strict money-limit before traveling there and see how far I can go with that!
Let me know as soon as you have your flight-dates!!! (Mine are seen in previous posts!)
Greetings from Berlin!

Hi Sarah,

thanks for your answer :)
funnily I just noticed that your flight dates correspond with my planned flight dates. I will book this weekend but need to check first if I have to be back on July 13th (as there might be a family event happening). So my departure would be on July 11th or 14th. This would match perfect with my plan to stay for one month.
Well I need to think about the accomodation thing, whether to take a tent or not but this won't change the fact, that I will stay some days in Reykjavik first (trying to surf a couch) and then go ahead traveling round the Ring road. Don't know which direction yet :) and I wonder if it's wise to book some bus transfer in advance. On the other hand, as I said, I don't like the idea of planning the journey in every detail. Maybe there is also a chance to hitchhike some distance...
I also thought about the possibilty to do some wwoofing like I did in Sweden before, but am not sure if I really want to...

Well so far, plans are going to be more precise soon :)

Greetings from the sunny south!

Hi there, I will be travelling to Iceland between July 3-July 13.

I have yet to confirm the exact dates but it would be great to join you on this adventure!

I am extremely flexible and excited to see Iceland. I speak English too, and Spanish (though I don't know how useful Spanish will be in Iceland)

Feel free to contact me via email:

Hey you all!

Me and a friend are also arriving in Iceland on June 23. Our plan is to do a 2 week roadtrip around Iceland. If any of you guys wanna join us, it would be great!

Here are a few details of what we are planning for this trip:
- We are planning on doing trekking on the Hornstrandir peninsula and on Skaftafell area for 2 ou 3 days each. We haven't book the tickets to Hornstrandir yet, but our plan is to be there from June 24 to June 27.
- We are renting a car for most of the trip.
- We intend to visit the main landmarks on Iceland: the Golden Circle, Skaftafell, Vajtanokull, the East Fjords, Myvatn and a few other places.
- We are carrying a tent for doing the trekking.
- Besides trekking, we want to: do snowmobile, dive, taking thermal baths, kayaking and whatever is available there :)
- We are both easygoing and looking for travel companions

So, if this sounds interesting, just write me back.

Hey Rafael and Liz!

I'd be definately in for a car-sharing too, the plans you wrote Rafael sound great to me and fit to my plan with traveling by tent + trekking! So keep me updated!!

Wishing you all a nice weekend,

Cool! So, when are you going to be in Iceland, Sarah?

For me, there's has been a slight change of plans after buying the tickets to Iceland and researching more about the trip. I'll be arriving in Reykjavik on June 21 and leaving back home on July 6. We also gave up the Hornstrandir trekking: the trail would be expensive to do and would take days we could use to know other places, such as the Laugavegurinn trail (which people say is even prettier than Hornstrandir and it can be done without a guide :) ).

So, you're still up?

Posted April 9th, 2013 - 8:12 pm by from Berlin, Germany (Permalink)
Hey!! Well since I will be in Iceland from June 13th til July 14th I feel like being able to join almost where/whenever ;-). Laugavegurinn trail sounds indeed like a very good idea!!!!!

Hi Marta&Mateusz,

My girlfriend and I are going to Iceland in June. We are arriving on Tuesday 18th of June and staying till Sunday 23rd of June. We plan to spend most of the time exploring the country, but we do want to spend a day or two in Reykjavik. We are very flexible right now, and are definitely open for suggestions with respect what to visit in Iceland. We'll be more than willing to pitch in for the gas/car rental cost and perhaps help with driving.

Looking forward to hear from you!

Ciao Veliko,
we (me and my friend Paola)will arrive on 16 and stay until 24. We have just found some sofas in a couple of places and we think we will camp in the other days. We have a car and may be 2 places more, but I am not sure because we are in touch with another surfer and I don't remember if our car is for 4 or 5 people. We will stay 2 days in Reykjavik and we will start the trip from the north. If you are interested, you are more then welcome!

I am working in a hotel 15 minutes from Skaftafell national park. I would like to meet people for some trips/hiking on my days off. 1st, 5th & 18th July. If you are in the south of Iceland, leave me a message and maybe we could meet!!

Hope to hear from you soon,
Bleu :-)
