Looking for Software Developer - International Partners
Posted June 25th, 2012 - 10:58 pm by from Istanbul, Turkey (Permalink)
Hi everyone,

My name is Orhan from Turkey. I'm studying computer engineering and doing my double in Business Administration in Turkey. Last semester I've studied in Rutgers and next semester I'll be studying in Bocconi University in Italy.

I'm planning to develop web and mobile phone based application, which allows users to encrypt secret messages via our app and embed them into the picture, and share.

Since this project requires knowledge from different perspectives such as security, image processing, web and mobile application development, and most importantly cloud computing, I need software developers and partners to work with and fire a startup together.

You can reach my resume from www.orhancanceylan.com/resume and my linkedin profile from http://www.linkedin.com/in/orhancanceylan

I would like to hear more from you so that we can broaden the idea and start working especially in the summer !

Hi Orhan,

Sounds like an interesting idea. How and why did you come up with this?

Hello Rob,

Thank you. In my freshman years we were working with the Images in matlab and after that I also worked a lot with bufferedImages and etc, and I know that people send encrypted e-mails to each other everyday, but people know that this e-mail is encrypted becase of the weird characters and etc. But in my idea, people will not be able to understand that there is a secret message in picture, because picture will look same :) So that they will be able to even share pictures on facebook, twitter and etc to create secure communication.

I'll not use matlab for the apps, my matlab projects just inspired me to play the images. I'm planning to develop web services with Ruby on Rails. And use Amazon Cloud for storage. But I'm definitely open to contrary ideas !

As I mentioned in my first message I'm not expert of the security, but for a now my idea is Public-Key Cryptologhy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public-key_cryptography. But I definitely need some person who is experienced more than me about the security issues.

I have two different ideas for that, but still, since I couldn't set up my team, the business model is not precise.
The first thing is, free version will not allow people to encrypt more than X character for example.
Second one is, the number of encryption and decryption limit for the picture per user.
But as I told you before, as we develop the product. the business model will be more accurate and reliable.

Thanks for your questions

Hello Orhan!
It seems like a very neat idea - to hide information within some other content. However they were doing that still in ancient Greece and called it steganography http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steganography

There's a good bunch of steganographical apps on android market, I guess same in iTunes.

So maybe it would be good for you to see some of them and see what you can improve on them to be able to monetize finally. I think the idea is great, however wonder who will be your target audience and how r u planning to monetize it. :)

I've just checked out some of the app pages on the market, and the amount of downloads/installs for some of them is alarming...

The other big problem you may encounter: the app should be installed on both sides... what's use for me do download any of these steganographic apps, if I cannot send my messages to anyone anyways... :S
