[Group announcement] Safety Warning

Dear All

We would like to remind our CS visitors:
• To read every reference (esp negative references) on a profile before sending couch-request
• That some hosts also have multiple profiles on CS
• Safety first! – even if you are so desperate and finally get a reply in the last-minute couch group – do check the person’s profile before agreeing to anything

It has come to our attention that a member of the site and of the “HK last-minute couch group” has used Couchsurfing as a CS host in Hong Kong and he had (i) attempted to touch improperly and to kiss more than one female surfers while hosting, (ii) stolen underwear (2 items) from a female surfer, and (iii) taken photos of surfers while they are sleeping etc.

The victim has now reported the incident to the CS Members Safety team (and may further report to the HK Police) - while these steps are taking place, we have decided not to announce the name/ user name of the accused until after the investigation/ conclusion is made.

We must make it clearly that:

We do not tolerate illegal activity and we encourage members to report it to the CS Members Safety team and the HK police (if necessary), and we will also do it ourselves when we consider we should. We do not fear!

We ask for the support of all our CS Hong Kong group members.

(I hope it’s not lame but…) May I ask that everyone replies this post with “Support!” so (1) the victim knows that she has all our support and she can be totally confident to report the incident and to write the person an honest negative reference, and (2) the CS record shows that the accused is a member of the CS Hong Kong group – we need to send him a clear warning message here that we are keeping an eye on him at all times.

Together we make our community a better and safer place to our members and visitors!
