Collaborative Landscape Documents

Hello Hong Kong Photographers!

My name is Flynn O'Brien. I am an artist living and working in New Orleans. I am starting an art project in which I will attempt to create collaborative landscape documents with people through online communication. I have created a specialized process of photographic collection in order to reveal something more about the space that is being photographed. To make it more of a shared experience between the participant and myself, I have decided to outsource aspects of this process (the interesting parts). This will allow for more diversity within the project while holding onto some parts that I like the most.

Basically, to participate, you will go out and take one photograph of a landscape and then send it to me using a fileshare website that I set up. I'll send that photograph back to you with a grid laid out on top of it and then you'll go back to where you took that photograph and, using the photograph with the grid, will take many more photographs based on points that are plotted on the photograph that was sent back to you. In all, participation in the project will take about four hours of your time over the span of two days. The days that you work are your choice as long as they fit within the directions of the process. I have laid out the steps in a manual which I have posted on my website:

In 2008, I joined Couchsurfing to meet interesting people while I traveled across Europe. I started a series of walking maps with people that I met along the way and was able to meet many kind and interesting people. I hope that this project will be as successful. To see examples of past work, take a look at my website.

I am really interested in working with a few people from Hong Kong in creating some landscape documents that accurately represent an individuals experience within their environment.

If you are interested, please respond to the post or send me an email.

It came to my attention, that some people might think this is spam or a phishing scam. I promise it isn't :) But then again, they all say that.
