24 Hour Kissing Performance
Posted September 30th, 2012 - 7:56 am by from Quezon City, Philippines (Permalink)
Hallo!

I plan to move around Southeast Asia this December- January (possibly February too), hoping there would be some people who might be interested to do a kissing collaboration with me for my current performance video series: Mechanized Intimacy.

I already launched and exhibited the start of this series in the Philippines and in Japan.
When the whole series is done (should be March), it will be exhibited as an installation and would be my final thesis in the University of the Philippines as well.

Mechanized Intimacy is an on-going series of works by Rhine Bernardino revolving around the concept of human endurance. This involves a 24-hour collaboration of the artist with total strangers (total of 24 strangers, 24 sessions) to take a picture every minute as they kiss throughout the duration of the work process. A total of 1440 still images of the targeted 24-hour kissing marathon is stringed together into a full-minute film featuring the limitations of kissing: its shift from an intimate act to a mechanical process.

If you want to know more about it or know people that might be into it, please feel free to message me.
I'd love to discuss it with you.

Much thanks!

Best,

Rhine Bernardino

Hey Rhine,

It sounds like an exciting project. What would you want people to do? Would you let me know more details? Thanks!

Hey Benny,

Thank you for your interest in the project.
The series is a performance-based work, so essentially, I am calling on strangers to do the performance with me.

It will take 24 hours, and we have to kiss every minute and take a photo of it, every minute.. It revolves around the idea of endurance in performance art/video, and its mostly what I do. Most of the premise and significance of the project is summarized in the post I made.

For the whole series, Im doing it with 24 total strangers and the whole work will be exhibited as an installation with one screen dedicated to one person/one session, with total of 24 screens lined up like a film strip.

I already launched and exhibited the first one in the Philippines and in Japan. I launched the first one just to formally announce that im doing the series and to get it out there, but i wont be exhibiting any of it anymore until Im done with the whole series.

If its not too much, and you also have people in mind that you think might be interested, it would really mean a lot if you inform them and spread the word.

Much much thanks!

All my best,

Hi Rhine,

This is really interesting, I'd love to be involved in some way. I'm a filmmaker, have lived in HK for only a couple of weeks and am trying to get involved with arts projects here.
