Camera Shops in HK for servicing...?
Posted August 1st, 2009 - 10:53 am by from Hong Kong Island, China (Permalink)
Hi Guys,

I'm just wondering where could I possibly have my camera serviced? I've took some photos this afternoon here in my place in Tseung Kwan O and there's some dirt that I can see from my viewer and I don't know where's it's coming from. When I bought a lens protector, the guy cleaned my lens before putting it on...

Help me please....

Thanks so much!!!

Sheila

Hi Sheila,

Your dirt problem is actually quite simple. A nice powerful blower brush will solve your problem. You are in good hands since Dave has offered to check it out for you. If I were around I would have done the same for you.

@Dave...let us have some more activity on the group, my friend. Wondering if you can suggest what one should do under the circumstances I am going to mention here. I have the Sigma 12 - 24 zoom lens. The aperture levers had come loose so that the lens would not close down. Took it to Sigma Service Centre at Kodak House in North Point in Oct/Nov 2007. They fixed the problem but, I think, introduced another one. It does not focus to infinity, which I realized much later when I got back to Mumbai. I can only use it at around f/11 - 16, and sharpening in post production. Now, do you think they would oblige me to set it right without charging me again as a goodwill gesture? I think it must be a question of resetting the focusing mechanism, which they might have overlooked while servicing the lens.

Guys, I hope to land on your mind blowing city soon. Around September/October. Hope we can meet up and join some photo shoots.

Hello Dave,

I am willing to meet up from today to Friday since I have split shifts. Starting today, Wednesday, my break is from 3:10 to 6:40pm (our shop's time clock is nine minuets late, lol...!!!) and on Friday, my break is from 3:10 to 7:10pm. I actually am very happy that you could meet me up and check my camera... My mobile is 6681-4543. My shift starts at 12noon so I might not answer any calls but I may answer some SMS if not busy :D

@ Swapan...

How are you? I hope you're coming on September/October... I'll send you message in of this days... just a bit busy from work lah... Yeah, I should need a blower brush and I forgot to buy one went to Sham Sui Po a few weeks ago. Take Care....

HI Swapan,
I don't think Sigma will help u to fix the infinity problem after 2 years.I guess they haven't check the infinity point after the aperture fixing(actually I think that's unbelievable they don't do this!)maybe the distance between the lens inside not accurate...If u come here for some days,I can help u to ask a very famous camera technician in HK to check your lens and see if he can fix the problem. He will give u a quotation first,no service charge if u don't want to pay that much, and u can get back you lens.
Hope to see u soon!
Dave

Hehehehe....

I have no idea yet about this topic, LOL... Hope to learn it soon...

@Dave... I have just left my camera at work so I wont be needing to bring it everyday from home to work & vise versa. Hope to see you soon...

@Swapan... When are you coming to HK?

Let's have a Dimsum Gathering when you come and have some photo shoot after wards or before hand... What do you think guys? I bet, Sathi would love to join our Dimsum too...!!!

Hope to hear from you!!!

Hi Dave,

Yeah, I also think Sigma HK will not entertain me after two years. Specially, when they had quoted me one price on the phone to fix the aperture levers but charged me less when I collected the lens. I had found it very odd the guy telling me to sell the lens as it is not very sharp! It was working fine before.

Anyway, I shall try to get it fixed here now as Sigma won't do it. In case it can't be done here I will certainly take up your offer. I am sure this gentleman will not be as expensive as Sigma people.

Plan to be in HK for a while. Hope to visit Yunnan province too. Looks like it will be around October.

Cheers to you all.

Happy clicking.
