Where to buy?
Posted March 7th, 2011 - 5:44 am by from Shenzhen, China (Permalink)
Hi there!
I'm flying to HK the 18th of this month and as soon as I arrive I would like to buy finally a new camera (Nikon D700), a lens, and some other accessories...

As I'm going to spend a lot (all my saves!!!) of money can somebody suggest me the best (I mean cheaper) place to buy equipment??

If someone wants to come with me it would be very appreciated as!

Thank you
Fabrizio

Hello Fab,

You can check that shop:http://www.tincheungcamera.com.hk/
at least you'll have a basic idea of the prices...
It's a good reference knowing that they are roughly 2% more expensive than other shops BUT they know their business, so if you need advices, go there first and make up your mind afterwards.
Dcfever.com has several shops in HK and are cheaper with same quality of products, less pro in terms of service and the website is in Chinese only.
Finally that shop http://www.phottixstore.com has a lot of accessories branded of their name, meaning really inexpensive. I bought my IR flash triggering system and it works really great... so fare, nothing to complain about.
And on a personal matter, if you feel like a drink when you are around, let me know...
Cheers,

Seb

Hey Seb!

Thank you for your fast reply!
I've just checked out the website your gave me and doesnt look so convenient to me!
Maybe I'm wrong but let me explain. In my case I'm interested in the Nikon D700 as I've wrote.

Retail price seems to be around 2.200 usd
Searching online you can find it for 1.990 usd easily and also less than 1.700 somehow (http://www.nextag.com/Nikon-D700-SLR-Camera-613117831/prices-html)

I dont really wanna bother myself buying online and deal with shipment and tax costs... and coming to HK I thought I was going to have about the same prices ... BUT
http://www.price.com.hk/product.php?p=109675
this site says the the price range in HK is about HK$15,550 (1.995 USD)
The website you gave me sell it for 16.800 HKD (2.160 USD)
hkbns.com 16.477,23 HKD (2.116 USD)

Looking at this comparison looks more convenient buy in the US better than HK ...

What's wrong?

I think the real way to save money is to buy used camera equipment in HK. A bit riskier, but brand new retail prices are the same worldwide.

My camera broke today, does anyone know of a place to get it repaired or where to buy second hand ones in Hong Kong?

Thanks
