Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about moving to HK soon, I'm a spanish photographer living in HCMC and seeking jobs around Asia, I see that HK has the biggest number of offers among the Asian countries so I would really apreciate any advice related,

I do mainly comercial, advertisment, portrait etc, to be honnest I can do a bit of everything included some graphic design as well, I do not have a degree, I just studied one and a half years however I do have more than 5 years experience.

well, any help at all would be very much apreciated.

thanks in advance and I might meet you soon....

Hola Miguel,

I'm not sure what kind of advice you are looking for...but a bit of my own story might help...
I moved in HK 6 months ago, after working in Macao for 3 years as an engineer. No question for me to get back to the engineering world so after a year almost on the road in SEA, I decided to look for perspectives here as a photographer.
The fashion/ad market is full on here but as always but certainly here in HK, either you do have a name that will work for you OR you are extremely good in public relations. HK is all about that, you go out, start to talk with people who know someone who know someone, etc... Also, there are a lot, I mean, a lot of photographer here, some with a studio some without (renting a studio here around can kill your budget in no time) so be prepared for a fierce competition.
European style works ok here, as local photography is more grunge/ punk style with little if any consideration for light. Re. design and creativity, young HongKong people are born and raised with a computer in their hands so Photoshop and co has no secrets for them...
So yes, I'm sure that HK has a place for everyone but be prepared for a big fight, economical and social pressure here are a big threat to creativity but if you like urban jungle, you'll be at your ease...

Anyway, check out some websites of HK based photographers and you'll have a first glimpse...

Have fun and a safe trip,
