Question about Self employmnent Visa
Posted July 17th, 2012 - 2:29 pm by from Cairo, Egypt (Permalink)
Hello all,
I recently learned about the "German free lance visa"(check the link below) that garnts non EU citizens to hold 1 to 3 years work permit visa in Germany and i have a few inquiries about it.I hope you have the time to answer them.

1-I knew this type of visas are primary granted to artists, teachers and architects. However, it can also granted to other professionals whom their profession allows them to free lance and work independently.Since i am a software consultant/programmer , do you think i a elgibile for this visa?

2-Does the applicant nationality have any effect on this?

3-ٍsince applicant should provide evidence that he can financially support himself during the first year ,should they open a bank account in Germany before applying?or does a bank account from country of origin is sufficient?

4-should applicant provide evidence that he currently have clients within Germany?

5-Should applicant provide any sort of business plan or market study.

Thanks you guys and longing to read from you.

Sorry if it's not a complete answer, as I'm no expert, but since you haven't got any responses yet, here's my 2 cents.

1 - yes, you can try with this profession even though it's not in the list. However, it may turn out that they want you to start a proper business with employees and a fairly big start up sum of money. Therefore, it's more in the direction of self-employment rather than freelance.

3 - no, it doesn't matter at the start

4 - yes, contracts are best, but letters of interest from clients is also good. the more the better. references also help.

5 - it depends on the scale of your enterprise. If you can get this freelancing one (not the business one, whatever it's actually called), then they just want to see that you can support yourself with a bit to spare. So give them an estimate of income and expenses for the first year. Include normal living costs such as rent and utilities, general expenditure etc.

I hope that helps a bit.
Good luck!
