Wow. That's really great of you to post this on here.

I'm an engineer with a masters in biomedical engineering and an electrical engineering degree, (nerd snort) and I'm attempting to move to Berlin in two weeks.

Professional experience wise, I don't have very much. I've spent 5 years in academic research labs, and another year working in broadcast film and tv.

I've only gotten as far as creating a list of interesting companies working in Berlin that I'll be cold calling over the next week. I'm concerned about my extremely limited language skills, and tiny bank account. This could be a disaster, but I usually thrive in these kinds of situations.

You seem to be doing pretty well for yourself, and have mostly navigated one of the hardest parts of relocating to a new country. Establishing some income.

I wonder if you have any advice for someone trying to make there way in. I'd love to buy you a cup of coffee when I get to Berlin in exchange for any nuggets of advice you might have for an american taking the leap.

Good luck with finding some Couch Surfing folks to add to your office. You can guarantee they'll be interesting open minded people.
