Donations by seafaring members.

This question below came up in the "Boat Hitchhikers" group a couple of weeks ago and hasn't received a reply.
It's a fair question...

Q: About philanthropy or donations at couchsurfing.org ... Are couch sailors or seamen/fishermen not allowed to donate to CS and why? Please comment. And let me explain what I have noticed. Couch sailors like myself are not allowed to donate to couchsurfing.org because we living at sea do not have a verified address... or rather a verifiable address in the Cs meaning and therefor even if we have a valid credit card etc. couchsurfing.org will not accept our money. I wonder why? Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

There is a distinct difference between donating and verifying. You can always donate to couchsurfing without becoming verified.

When you donate you have the option of getting an icon on your profile
saying that you donated to couchsurfing. You can donate here: https://www.couchsurfing.org/donation/secure_form This does not verify your identity or address.

Whereas verification is a two step process. You donate to couchsurfing,
and verify your identity and address. This gives you the "check" on your
profile that shows members you've taken steps to prove who you are.

In short, verification is pretty much only possible when you have a permanent address whereas donations can be made by anyone.
