Language clases
Posted June 28th, 2011 - 6:34 am by from Buenos Aires, Argentina (Permalink)
Hi. I moderate several groups.
A question that is often asked by people that teach languages is:
Can I promote my teaching in the forum? Can I offer what I do here? I think it could be helpful.
I just try to stay away from that because I don't want the money to be involved in this.
Is it ok to create sub groups for this?
Is it ok to offer this in a city group?

What do you think?

Saludos Pablo,

CS does not allow any commercial use of our services. It's against our Terms of Use, which all members agree to. You can see this here: http://www.couchsurfing.org/terms.html
In particular:
"2. USER CONDUCT. In your use of our Services, you must act responsibly and exercise good judgment. By way of example and not limitation, you shall not:
(i) use our Services for any commercial purpose whatsoever;
(m) assist any third party in doing any of the foregoing."

Now, when it comes to CS Groups when a member is posting something like: "I'm looking for a French Teacher", or something like "I just moved and looking for a job, do you know if anyone is hiring?" we allow it, as it's members ASKING for information. We also allow members who are able to offer such a information to respond to those posts.
This is considered information that another person has actually *asked for*.

Now, in the case you mention, if nobody is asking and members are simply posting what they offer (classes, reduced prices for services, rentals, jobs, etc.) then this considered commercial use (whether you make profit from it, or somebody else does), so, it is considered inappropriate.

Please let us know if you have any follow up questrions.
