Anyone have contacts in Ikaria?
Posted April 8th, 2013 - 12:26 pm by from Aarhus, Denmark (Permalink)
Hi guys! I am a photojournalism student currently living in Aarhus, Denmark attending the Danish School of Media and Journalism. I am interested in doing a month long story about the island of Ikaria and those who live there for my bachelors project. I'm interested in getting in touch with people who live on the island. If anyone knows anybody or if you live in the island of Ikaria, please contact me.

My email is kristen.m.zeis@gmail.com

Thanks,
Kristen Zeis

Hey Kristen,

When do you plan to go? Have you been to the island before?
You wont have a difficulty to find people. People in Ikaria and generally in Greece are very open and talkative. In the summer it is very crouded though.
I have some friends from Ikaria but they are there mostly during the summer so I don't know if they can help you.
Anyway even if you don't find anybody before you go you wont have a problem to find people willing to help once you are there.
If I come in mind of somebody that could help you I will let you know.

Hi Ingrid,
Thanks for your response. I will be leaving Aarhus in the next two weeks and will be saying on the island until the last week of May. I have a roommate from Thessaloníki who has been great in helping and giving me advice and he says exactly what you are saying- I will have no problem getting in contact with people once I arrive because everyone is so nice.

What we did discuss is that language might be hard for me to navigate since I don't speak Greek and finding a place to stay for the month is also something I'm still working to figure out.

I'm just hoping to come in contact with a few people who can help with communication if necessary and potentially finding a local who might be willing to host me or rent me a room during my stay.

If you think of anyone I'd love to hear from them. Thanks again for your response!

Iñaki,
I'm afraid that I didn't get your message but would love to hear from you. Would you mind trying to send the email again? Thanks!

Hello Kristen!

I just said in the email (weird... I will try to resend it again) that I´ve friends living there permanently.
I will contact them this weekend, to see whether they will be available... there´s a whole family there that I know so you should have enough samples! :)

They live in Kampos Village (close to Evdilos port). I will let you know once I talk to them (I just think it´s fair to let them know you will contact them).

Ah, in the email there was also some envy included! XD!!

Talk to you soon!!

Iñaki.

Hi Iñaki!
Any luck reaching the family that you had mentioned? I'd love to meet them. Thanks.
