Snow in December
Posted September 29th, 2012 - 12:46 pm by from London, England (Permalink)
I will be in Hungary for ALL of December touring and looking for possible property to buy.

I'll rent a car to get around.

And wonder if it's likely to snow and in which locations it snows during December?

thanks so much
Gav

The answers are yes and anywhere! Obviously like anywhere else the highest hills will get snow when it's falling as rain in the valleys but you can get snow anywhere. It might not hang about long though, as it can soon get up to about 10C by midday and start to melt. Unlike UK the melt water tends to evaporate off rather than forming black ice, as the humidity is lower.
I find this a useful site for weather once you find your way round the menus:

Awww this is an interesting topic. I am also going to be there in December. As it snows here in Poland terribly and it is freezing especially in December/January I am wondering if Hungary also tends to be often subzero?

And another question...I hope, you can answer it. :P Do means of transport work well during winter in Hungary? Here, unfortunately it is a disaster with trains! Other ones are punctual. It is kinda helpful, as me and my friend plan to travel a lot by train.

It is about the same here in winter as in Poland - concerning the snow and the trains as well :)
Maybe the weather is a bit milder but the difference is not so big, I think.

Awwwww...ok, so I will try to be optimistic no matter what ;) :P. U know, our trains quality is hopeless...probably worst trains in the whole Europe...and never on time...and it is like a nightmare in winter. So is it better to travel by bus maybe?

No, you cannot take buses instead if trains as usually there are no paralel buses to railway lines. But if there is a big snow, it influences the traffic on the roads as well, so there can be a problem also with the buses.
Don't worry, trains are working in winter as well but often with delays and sometimes some trains are cancelled if heavy snowing is expected.

Hitching lifts could work OK in bad weather as drivers might be glad of someone they can ask to do pushing or shovelling.
