Matrica / Vignette

Does anyone know how they work out the dates on these?
Soon after I bought my Hungarian registered car I got what I thought was a 12 month Vignette. It certainly says "Type: Yearly" on it but I now see that it is not a year, going on the start and end dates. I know with UK tax discs you can lose nearly a month if you buy them at the end of the month but this has all of February and most of March missing: Start: 2012.03.23/07:12:39
End: 2013.01.31/23:59:59

I know that year vignettes in HUngary are valid for the calendar year from date of purchase.
Stupid, but this is.

hi, Szilárd is right, this is just plain stupid to call it "1 year", while it's just annual.

there is no way to 'reclaim' those lost 2 months. on the other hand, the "weekly" vignette lasts for 10 calendar days (starting on the day of the purchase from 00:01 and lasting until 23:59 on the 10th day)

Surely a calender year ends on December 31, not January 31?

yeah, that one month is the sign of generosity. but don't worry: if you'll buy another annual vignette for 2013, then you'll have another decision to make: pay twice for january or lose another month oit of 12 and buy the annual in february.
a calendar year ends in hungary, when a professional committe states it's over :)

It's OK, I will buy the short term vignettes in future! I don't actually use the motorways much but I just thought it would be one less thing to remember if I had a yearly one. In UK every car has to display a tax disc but you get sent a reminder when it is due for renewal. The UK car tax seemed expensive but I think for my small car it would be cheaper than the Hungary vignette + local car tax.
