Hi Ania,

if we talk about public transportation, of course the train is the fastest and best option.
You can check the trains / schedules under the following link: http://elvira.mav-start.hu/

However the site is not working on my side at this very moment, I guess it should take 3 - 3,5 hours from Miskolc to Tatabánya - you have to change train in the capital.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Andras

Hi Ania,

yes, Miskolc Tiszai is the main station of Miskolc.
From Miskolc, the train goes to Budapest Keleti, and there you can change for the train that leaves for Szombathely (Tatabánya is one of its stop). So, there is no need to travel in Budapest from Keleti to Nyugati. I suggest you to chose the Intercity trains from Miskolc that leave in every 2nd hour at X:28. (8:28, 10:28, etc.) With this you will have 7 minutes to change the train in Budapest and leave for Tatabánya.
As for special offers during the weekend, I know(international) student card only. There is an other one, namely for people under their age of 26, but it is out of scope in our case.

Cheers,
Andras

Hi Ania,

vodka, first. But if they do not drink alcohol, then chocolate. I guess you know them much better than me. I would be happy about vodka rather than chocolate :)

Cheers,
Andras

Hi Ania!

Sorry my reply comes a bit late, but might be useful for future references: there's a carpooling website that I use very often for my trips between Miskolc and Budapest:
oszkar.com

It works very well, especially on friday-sunday when people travel between where they work and their hometown. To use the website is free but the trips are not free, yet it's much cheaper than a train ticket, and most of the time the drivers are kind and will drop you to your door or as close as possible.
For a trip miskolc-budapest, I consider 2000ft the regular price, 2500 is the high limit.
the website's 100% in Hungarian so if you are not a Hungarian speaker, I advise to get help from a Hungarian friend to register and to book/arrange the first few trips.

Good luck for your next trip

P.S: have you been to the brit-magyar klub yet? ;)
