Hi,
me and my girlfriend are staying in Barcelona 20/6 - 27/6 and could really use some recommendations when it comes to places that serves vegan and/or vegetarian food. Please write to me if you have any useful hints.

Thanks! /Nikolina

It's been awhile since I've been in Barcelona but here's what I remember -

If you eat egg you can get by a bocadillo (sandwich) ~ tortilla Francesa (an omelet) or tortilla Espanola (omelet with onions and potatoes) are pretty common. Pan y Company is a popular chain sandwich shop that are prevalent around Barcelona. They might even have a vegetarian option but I can't remember, sorry!

You also can find tortilla Espanola at many restaurants.

If you stick to restaurants in the touristy areas like Las Ramblas you should be able to find a vegetarian dish at most places. I distinctly remember getting a vegetarian paella at one of the restaurants near the Columbus Statue on Las Ramblas.

Many tapas (small plates) are vegetarian - what sticks out in my mind is the aforementioned tortilla Espanola, mushrooms, pan con tomate (tomato smeared onto bread), I remember there being quite a few vegetable based tapas as well.

Patatas bravas (fried potatoes with a mayonnaise and spicy sauce) while seemingly vegetarian are traditionally fried in duck fat ~ so alas, they aren't :(

When I lived in Barcelona Chinese restaurants were ubiquitous and they usually had vegetable fried rice or something similar. I know you'd probably prefer to eat Spanish food while in Spain but at least if you're incredibly hungry and can't find anything you'll know they're also an option.

^ Sorry, I just realized your post title was "Vegan Barcelona" so of course you don't eat eggs. Disregard the advice on tortilla ~ you can find some vegetable tapas and some restaurants serve a vegan paella. Sorry I can't be of more help :(

Yo.
Check this PDF.
I have it in a printed version, got it from one animal rights activist in Barcelona. Lots of useful stuff. Basically all you need to know about vegan options in Barca. Enjoy!

As others have mentioned, Gopal is very good. There's a vegan bar called Cat Bar that serves vegan pub food. L'Hortet is a vegetarian cafe with vegan options.

At non-vegetarian restaurants, look for calçots (if they are in season) and pimiento de padron.

Cat Bar is the best vegan place in Barcelona by a mile! Huge vegan menu, vegan wines, (delicious) vegan beers, music, lovely staff. I would not eat anywhere else in Barcelona.

hello nikolina,

there's many vegan and vegetarian food places in barcelona. in the centre, there's a plaza called Orwell (inofically known as plaza del tripi) and there you have a vegan food place and a vegetarian restaurant with vegan options.
welcome to barcelona :)

enjoy your trip!!
