Vegan and hungry abroad - a multi-language booklet for travelling vegans.
Posted August 22nd, 2012 - 8:18 pm by from Utrera, Spain (Permalink)
Hey!

So I am a vegan from England who wants to do something with a project group of my friends. I have a project going now which is translating vegan dietary requirements into as many languages as possible, I will then put them all online to download for free by anyone who wants to use them.

So far I have English, Chinese, Spanish, Latvian, Polish, French, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese and hopefully Dutch and Catalan are coming soon.

If any of you are interested in helping translate it to your native language I would really appreciate it.

Let me know and I will send you the English version however on this group I think most of you know what I am talking about!

Kindest regards!

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

I am a freelance translator and I'd be interested in rendering the vegan dietary requirements into Turkish.

Thank you.

Hey everyone! Thank you for all the amazing offers of translation... Erik I know there is vegan passport but the book costs either £6 or £8 in the uk and to be honest I would rather do something that all can use for free, that was made with the intention to be free...

I am going away for the weekend and my internet doesn't work at home (using cafe) so will email everyone with the text when I get back on monday.

The idea of doing a pronoun citation audio thing is amazing too! If anyone has the time to do it please feel free and i will sort out getting it online, if anyone knows how to make an app (good idea but I am clueless!) let me know and I will try doing it!

Hey Sarah, this is a wonderful idea!

I would love to translate to Hebrew.
Actually, there's an amazing vegan awareness revolution going on here in Israel this year, much thanks to this interesting lecture that's gone viral here - the most viewed lecture *ever* on the internet in Israel!
I highly recommend sharing it everywhere you can!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es6U00LMmC4

you can also choose subtitle language.

Along with the strong vagabond israeli tendency, I think that booklet will come in very handy!

Hey everyone! Sorry for my absence! I have been away and then my internet stopped working!

so the original text is something like this

Hello,

I am (or the group are) vegan and would like something to eat. Veganism is a diet and lifestyle that avoids using animal products in food, clothing, alcohol and cosmetics. People dedicate themselves to veganism for different reasons, with health benefits, animal rights, ecological concerns being some of them.

We do eat; all fruits, vegetables, lentils, beans, rice, and grains. We eat pasta which is has no egg, cous-cous, we eat soups and meals with vegetable stock, vegetable and olive oils and coconut milk.

We do not eat meat (beef, chicken, pork or any other animal), fish, meat stock (as used in soups), milk (from any animal), eggs, butter, cheese, lactose, shellac, lard or animal fat, gelatin, or food with these products in, even in small amounts.

Thank you for your time reading this and we really appreciate any food you can prepare.

___________________________________________________________

So thank you to all who have taken this one step farther! The page for the texts is a brilliant idea and so is the audio clips.

As for what I intended, I think Tim.S sums it up - I just wanted to do something that was intended to be free, it wasn't really intended to be a better version of VP just not relying on downloading something via torrents or whatever. However now with the audio clips it seems to have taken a collectively owned direction and that is awesome!

My sincere thanks to all the are taking part - I will put the languages people sent me on the page when my internet behaves itself!

Sarah

IN DUTCH:

Hallo,

IN GERMAN:

Hallo,
