Vegan in Mumbai...?
Posted October 15th, 2012 - 2:50 pm by from Cardiff, Wales (Permalink)
Hej everyone

I am going to Mumbai in November for a friends wedding, however I have planned to get there some days prior to explore the city a bit [and also to get some wedding-suitable clothes made!] and I was wondering if anyone can reccomend any vegan places to check out, eat etc? My last visit to India I wasn't vegan, and I remember a lot of paneer and ghee in the vegetarian food... any hot tips?

I am arriving on 10 November late in the evening, and I am meeting up with some friends for diwali on 13 November, that gives me 3 days to do some tourism before diwal-wedding celebrations.

I was also wondering if there are any vegan hosts in Mumbai who would be able to spend time with me / share their space with me for a night or two?

Love and light.... thom :)

Hey Thom,

Hope you are having a good time in Mumbai. I'm an Indian living in Switzerland.

Many Indian dishes are vegan by default. However, when you visit a restaurant, make it clear that you don't eat ghee, paneer, curd (yogurt in India), or milk.

Vegetarianism is very common in India. Veganism is picking up only now. Most people can't even pronounce the word 'Vegan.' You would easily find a vegetarian host. If you are still looking for a vegan host, there is a group on facebook - 'Indian Vegan'. Just write a request there.

Cheers & Have Fun,
Madhur
