Bucolic new year eve in Penang on the beach
Posted November 3rd, 2010 - 7:44 am by from Montreal, Canada (Permalink)
Sungai Batu is the name of the river as well as the coastal village on the southern part of Penang Island, in Malaysia. It is one of those places in Penang that is still untouched by development, though not for long. There is a small lake in Sungai Batu which was created a long time ago from sand mining. Most of the villagers in Sungai Batu are fishermen, and their livelihood was affected when the December 2004 tsunami hit the coastal areas of Penang. Nevertheless, the area has quickly recovered.

Sungai Batu is a very lovely place, the beach is between a lovely lake and the sea...

And i'm sure that you will LOVE the place :)

If you want to experience a new year eve in a Malaysian "local" way, this is the place where you will love to be instead of any "Dance club" in Georgetown, full of westerners....

We gonna celebrate the new year on the beach respecting the local way of life....

Beginning early, for you to enjoy the wonderful sunset from this place.... (bring your cameras and your tripod).

Of course, it's a potluck, so everybody has to bring food and drinks, in the good tradition of sharing of the Couchsurfing website :)

But, it will be cheaper for you than buying food and drinks in a bar in Georgtown, and you will experience the "local' way of life...

Hope to see a lot of you :)

Let's have a BIG NEW YEAR celebration in Penang :)
