Does Ambassador has any power?
Posted May 11th, 2013 - 1:34 pm by from Mumbai, India (Permalink)
Hello

I dont like commercial or non cs events on CS. So i use to report each and every event which i use to feel doesnt fit the CS guidelines.

I normally use to report this on support / help and requested to check the event and if found non cs event then please take a action.

but recently when i wrote a request to check on an event, i was told to use the FLAG system.

Why wait for many members to flag it?
when a Ambassador (appointed to do something, i suppose) reports it then it should be considered.

I wish we had some priority (not power) in reporting unwanted stuffs on CS.

Its been 3 days to flag one of the Event, but no action nor any reply from anyone saying that qualifies to be CS event.

I dont know what is the weightage to our Flag, i have asked this question to support team too.

https://www.couchsurfing.org/n/events/breaking-rules-photography-workshops-mumbai--2

This Member has already organised two such events... and few days back i came to know that he is charging Rs.3000/- per person for 4 hours (proof on the post)... for teaching photography...
So i feel its an Commercial Event...
if Support Team or anyone who takes actions against unwanted members/events, waits for members to Flag then this mite not work everywhere... and this is the proof.. as this member has already finished two events in past and many more has been created for future date.

We can only flag under the new rules and then wait and watch :)

And recently there is rise in unwanted CS events and unwanted members... GOD HELP US.

Yesterday i got this reply from the Support team

"Please keep in mind that while the actions that we take may not be
evident, we are following up on this issue, as per our Terms of Use.
Concerning your questions about flagging, when enough members flag a post, the content gets removed from the site."

Now dont know what does the Enough Members means here...

as the concerned Event was there since last 3 weeks and not it has been removed, dont know if there were really enough flag to it or not... but had to write and bring this to their notice again and again... I wish Ambassador single flag should be enough to look into the matter (not asking to just remove without looking into the matter)

Please bring some changes to the Terms of Use and give some weightage to Ambassador atleast (If it is there then please dont ask the ambassador to get more flags from people)

annarital.. to be honest, even i find this version little uneasy compare to the old version...
i was searching where are all my groups.. then realised its in Discuss....

i Agree to you TheMonkWithoutAFerrari...

We are here to do something which we cant do without the help of others :)

And others can do the same thing without our help :)

So this proves MEMBERs have more power then AMBASSADOR :)

and i feel the only difference is We can discuss matter in this group, where only Ambassadors are allowed, but no one to listen to our discussion ;)

And the Latest Reply from Support Team when i asked what does "enough" means for flagging was 'Concerning your question about the number of flags necessary to
remove a post, I can not provide you with this information, as we can
not always discuss the specifics of our backend tools and systems.

You can review our Terms of Use here: https://www.couchsurfing.org/n/terms

You'll see that using the system for commercial purposes is not permitted.'"

I am really surprise to know that using the system for commercial purpose is not permitted :)
then i wonder why no action was taken unless i reported for it... and the commercial event successed in organising two such events in past, All thanks to the system.

and our question will be unanswered with regard to the number of members required to flag the post/event.

same here SKYEHIKER

few days back there was a post on couch request...
and the reply you get is amazing :)

https://www.couchsurfing.org/n/threads/mumbai-maharashtra-india-hi-hi

I flagged it but no action till today... maybe they havnt got enough flag to take action against it.. even though it voilates the ToU.

CS members are now charging for the room per day basis :) and still no action is taken :)
All thanks to backend System...

If backend system cant keep track of each and every post then why dont they pass such power and duty to local people there... atleast they will keep their city clean from such nonsense post and replies.

New members who doesnt read the ToU are thinking its fine to charge for couch by reading such post :)

annarital.. even i feel it has to do something from person to person.. you were lucky... and i wish we all have such luck for lifetime we are here ;)

Another amazing post, offering couch / flat at a cost...

https://www.couchsurfing.org/n/threads/mumbai-maharashtra-india-hi-a-fully-furnished-house-is-available-from-29th-may-to-8th-of-june-its-located-in-bandra-west-and-very-close-to-a

I have flagged this post.. but i doubt anything will happen to this post or this member, as enough members doesnt believe in flagging :(

and many post which i had flagged are still available, for commercial use or unwanted off topic spam, due to the same reason "Enough member need to flag"

Another Great CS System

Kindly check this event (if it is not deleted, as i have reported about it)

https://www.couchsurfing.org/n/events/property-exhibition-at-for-bungalow-plot-s-thane?place_id=mumbai-maharashtra-india#

Infact today when i posted a message on this SPAM EVENT saying "CS Members are requested to FLAG this Event as SPAM"
As CS need more flags to delete it..

and in few minutes (no even 10 mins) i received a mail from CS saying my Post is Hide from the Event as someone Flag it as off topic :)

So this is really an Amazing example of how non cs event works. My Post to clean this Spam event is deleted and this Spam Delete is still there :)

I wish if we had some extra Power or weightage in Flag.

now i have reported about it to support department.. so lets see what happens.. but a solution is needed to stop SPAM EVENT.
