made me SO ANGRY!

everyone with an empty profile should be DELETED IMMEDIATELY from the cs website. honestly, this is getting ridiculous...

WHY do we allow ppl with empty profiles to post? this is a serious security threat! and HAS RESULTED IN HARASSMENT IN THE PAST! nevermind that most groups have an alternate facebook page to converse in because of moderating abilities and less downtime... that's pretty bad... but it's unforgivable that this system actually works BETTER than the place pages! we KNOW it's not ideal... why why not fix it before making all these other changes to the the search function? which worked best before anyone mudled with it anyway?

but this is just venting. it's really the ability to post and request with an empty profile. this is B.A.D...

and i can't understand how these girls weren't in some way informed of the dangers of replying to a post like this. they're young and naive, yes, but there clearly isn't a safety message which is getting through to new users... whatever the safety message is when you sign up, it needs to be looked at and displayed in a way that people actually read it.

i can't stress how serious this is.

why isn't this being looked at immediately?! how is this even an issue? if there's no way for anyone to tell anything about you, you shouldn't be able to use a website based on trust and informed decisions! period!

The post has been removed basically it was a guy with no profile no references offering his couch <24 yo girls only. Incredibly, he received two replies by girls wanting to stay. Both pretty new profiles, no previous cs experience.

And thanks to the genious of the CS HQ they removend the New Member Welcome tool.
It was a good way to support new members, to give them personal hints on their safety. There were experienced Couchsurfers, who gave them (sometimes) individual advices, spoke from their own experiences, could give samples...
But hey, it's more safe to give some stupid non-saying marketing-like blah-blah to new users. A friend of mine registered a few month ago (after the removal of the NMW). The welcome mail he got contained not a single hint on safety issues, just some "hey, go surfing" stuff. In my very own point of view the CS HQ takes particular responsibility if something happens to new unexperiences members. Those girls in the deleted post (why it was deleted?) would have received at least 1-2 messages additional to the default CS welcome message (they also receive nowadays). They would have received advices on safety (what is "Vouching", what are "references" ...). But hey, let's spread a naive positive "just surf" attitude, ignoring the risks an dangers this causes ...

Agree that both the 'stream' format of place pages and the Open CS features need to be re-evaluated.

I have suggested a cool-down period for new profiles being able to use OpenCS requests (Must have a Normal CS request on profile first) or some critera enabling that feature. As well as the complete removal of Place streams from being a post/reply place (Make it autogenerated contented XYZ, surfed with X, X posted in subforum Y) etc.
