Indeed,many times we've discussed this,but what are those magic words which "make them learn English"..
@TheEconomist posted this:
Putting a learn-English provision in an immigration-reform bill is mostly about politics as it is not really necessary http://econ.st/W6Wf9w
and

@George,
"Practically all Europeans are multilingual".
hmm, based on Yedish?!
"I've met educated Germans who prefer to watch English language films in the original rather than with subtitles".
just am rerhinking this...
"In my experience, the most multilingual people in Europe are the Dutch. I applaud them for it. Many Dutch, besides their mother tongue, are fluent in English, German and French to a surprisingly high degree'...
wonder; Why and How to measure their multilinguis/multiculturalism?!
and now a new phenomenon?!

Part of the reason the Dutch and the Scandinavian countries are better at English and perhaps other languages is they are exposed to them while watching TV. Whereas the Germans, French and Spanish dub everything into their respective language the Dutch and Scandinavians use subtitles and leave it in the original language. They are exposed to the foreign language and have a translation right in front of them. This may not seem like much but it is a great advantage in learning a language.

THE debate around immigration in America often touches on language. The fear of nativist Americans is that immigrants do not learn (and maybe do not want to learn) English.
