Best climbing spots within 1 hour drive of BCN?
Posted January 9th, 2012 - 1:07 pm by from Vienna, Austria (Permalink)
Hey everyone!

I am wondering: If I have a car and four days time -- which are the sport climbing spots within about one hour drive of Barcelona that you would recommend most? If you can, please also post which climbing guide they can be found in.

Thanks a lot!

PS: This will be next week, and some of the days we'll have two free seats in the car. Let me know if you want to get out!

hi chris . well you have montserrat in less than one hour from barcelona and there are thousands of routes there , for example my favorite place there its "vermell del chicarro" and you can take a look to the guides in some bars of the little town of "el bruc". you can also ask there about el vermell ,how to go there (not really far from el bruc (always when im going there i stop first in el bruc to take a coffee). el vermell del chicarro the routes are between 5 and 8a but most of the routes are between 6a and 7c . i could say that in this place should be around 100 routes .
then others places around barcelona we have "garraf" here you can find "pas de la mala dona " ( with a new area walking a little bit more up, called "cafe del mar") , "penya senyal"(small place with around 25 routes between 6a and 7b with really good rock),"cova de bombers"(a cave totally overhanging with around 20 routes between 7a and 8a+)and "penya ginesta"(this last one i dont recommend cuz the routes are really slippery) .
also there are another new area close to gava in a town called begues its a bit complicated to arrive there the place called penya del moro and have around 160 routes and opening more everyday .there are 2 areas the first one with short routes betwen 8 and 10 meters max i think and between 5 and 7c and the second area a bit far from the first one with longer routes and also between 5 and 7c .
other place around one hour of barcelona its "calders" most of the routes are overhanging and all the routes are really hard there isnt too many 6s most of the routes are between 7a and 8c .
well maybe with all this you have enough for 4 days , tell me which days are you going ,maybe i can join you one of those days . i have to work from thursday till next tuesday but after that im free.
