English Teaching Invoicing for Americans
Posted November 9th, 2012 - 11:13 am by from Bergen, Norway (Permalink)
Hello all,

I have recently gotten my CELTA certification and have actually found a couple gigs, but there is no way for me to get paid. There used to be a company that Americans could invoice through, but they went under. Does anyone know if any other company has filled this void? Are there other options for invoicing language schools? Are teachers able to group together and form a "teaching company" that they can collectively invoice through? Any information would be extremely helpful; it is painful to have people interested in hiring you, but can't because of invoicing troubles.

As far as I know, you need to have a company of some description. The best bet, however, might be to set up your self employment back "home" and sign up to one of these online invoicing programs (I use symbion.eu). You need to send the invoice in Hungarian, but you can view all the information in English and they give you a months free trial.

If you think you can or want to set up shop here longer term, then perhaps it's best to speak to an accountant: there are a few English speakers around and they will offer you a free consultation first up, which will give you a good idea of your options.

Hope that's helpful

Hi mate,

do you think your offer to help is still standing? I have a similar problem. Could I contact you by email? Are you still in Budapest? Thanks!
