Hi Ella,

I am Sylvia and am not Chinese but once staying in Liaoning province for two months. I was there for job and the place where stationed was Donggang. Its a 4 hours drive from Dalian and 1 hour drive to Dandong which is the border to North Korea. I will say you should give it a visit! its beautiful, country side and you will see real China place. Not touristic at all. Then you can take bus/taxi to Dandong.
Only problem is, people over there dont speak english at all :)

have a wonderful time.

There are quite a few hotels around, but the thing is not a lot of them will allow foreigners to stay. There is the Liaohua Hotel, but maybe that is a little expensive. I have a friend there who said he could let you stay with him. Here is his number, 18241956996. If you go to Liaoyang go a head and give him a call. He lived in the states for 5 years and his english is great and his family so welcoming and fun! You would have a great time if you stayed with him. He also has a school so you could meet a lot of local high school students! They would love to practice their enlgish with you. Hope you can make it there. Take care!

Hi there. I lived in the small city of Liaoyang for 1 year. Liaoyang is a nice city with no tourism or tourists. There are some very nice temples with one of the biggest Buddhist statues, they say the biggest, but who really knows. Now the main city of Liaoyang is quite very city-like, but you can go to the outlying villages pretty easily. And they are really nice. You can get to Liaoyang easily by train from Shenyang and then take a bus. I would reccomend going to Dongjingling. To go there you can take bus 23 from the train station and go all the way til to end. There are mountains and many farmers you can see and very "CHINESE". Also a very nice place to go for a very good view of the city and the forest you can take bus 17 all the way out to Liaohua and go to the mountain. There is a temple on a mountain, very nice!

Another nice place for a hike is near Anshan. It is called Qianshan (thousand mountains) and really beautiful. I am not exactly sure how to get there as we would go by car when we went, but i believe you can look online.

I hope that helped some. If you need I can give you the number of some friends and they can help you around the city if they have time. They always love to meet foreigners!
