Greetings from Turkey dear Couchsurfers.

I have been making plans about a trip to Lapland for this coming Feb. I want to observe northern lights and also visit indigenous people who lives in Lapland.
So please advice me, where should I go to good observing and meeting that people same time.

Thanks in advance to everyone.

Since you are posting this on the Norway group I assume you want to visit the Norwegian part of Lappland. To visit a sami community you should go to KARASJOK in Finnmark. Its one of the two largest sami communities in Northern Norway ( the other one is KAUTOKEINO ).

I have added a link to Engholm Husky farm. Its a sledge dog farm just outside Karasjok. I have had surfers that were going there through wwoofing, working for accomodations and food. Europes largest mountain plateau FINNMARKSVIDDA, is the playground of Engholms dogs, and to be able to go dog sledging under the magic light of aurora borealis, must be a once-in-a lifetime experience.

Dont know how long you plan to stay or if Engholm has openings for wwoofers then so I also added a link to Sapmi park, meybe you can get some useful information there.

Good luck, and enjoy Finnmark and Lappland as it is one of the most beautyful areas in Norway
