Hi Jing,

Your plan is very ambitious. I see that from Brasov you go back to Sinaia and from Sinaia to Sibiu?? This does not make sense, because to go from Sinaia to Sibiu you pass Brasov. So you can go directly from Brasov.

I am from the north, I live in Cluj Napoca and often go to my parents in Baia Mare (Maramures). I can show you around when you are here and maybe even host you (I don't know yet).

However, I have to admit that you try to see a lot of things in these 10 days and you will most of the time be on buses and trains and will not see very well the areas. I don't know what is the purpose of your trip, but I suggest you focus on 2, maximum 3 areas and spend more time there. Let's say that from Bucharest you go to the mountains and do 3,4 days of trekking there (and take a day trip to visit Brasov) and the go to the Danube Delta and stay 3 days there too. You can hire boats and go with the locals to visit the narrower canals and the lakes. Springtime is the best, all the birds come and they are very active, mating, nesting, etc.

Day 27 as you describe it will involve a VERY short stay at Dracula's castle (Castelul Bran) and a VERY short stay in Brasov.

Or if you don't want too much time in the mountains, after Brasov go to Sibiu OR Sighisoara if you plan to continue north, because if you go from Sibiu to Sighisoara you only have 1 bus a day and no direct train (so you will have to go back to Brasov which is ... a lot of time lost).

It all depends on what's your thing, but end of april is excellent for nature. If you want to squeeze all those things in 10 days you will most probably end up with a very vague and superficial experience.

Or if you really want to see so many cities, you might want to consider renting a car. Driving in the evenings will allow you most of the day for activities and sightseeing.

You can write me a personal message if you want more info or help with your plan :)

Take care,
Adrian

You 're right Abraham! I was a bit too ambitious....:( Since I don't know if I have chance to revisit Romania I was considering to cover as much as possible in one visit...but as you sai, I will properly see nothing but moving here and there on the train....I' ll adjust a little. :)

Hi Jing,

I will quote Adrian and say that your plan is really ambitious. I will put my suggestions on your plan below:

24/4 19:00, arrive to Bucharest
**Hotel @ Bucharest
25/4
-Bucharest Sightseeing
-train to Sinaia
**Hotel @ Siania

26/4
-Siania Sightseeing
-climb on Bucegi Mountains - I will skip climbing the mountains as beautiful paths take more than half a day, and I will visit instead Peles Castle which is very very nice. I will go in the same evening to Brasov and accommodate there.
**Hotel @ Siania

27/4
-Bus to Brasove
-Dracula castle
-Brasove Sightseeing - You shall visit Biserica Neagră, but anyway you probably can not miss it.
-Back to Siania - I will try to reach Sibiu the same day
** Hotel @ Siania

28/4
-Move to Sibiu
-Sightseeing - I will stick around Sibiu all day long and just relax since it is a very nice city and after 4 days running between buses you may deserve a day off :)
**Hotel @ Sibiu

29/4
-Move to Sighisoara
-Sightseeing - If you have the chance to go back from Sighisoara to Sibiu take it since half a day or 3/4 of a day is enough to visit the fortress
**Hotel @ Sighisoara

30/4
-move to maramures while visiting "targu mules" & "baia mare"
**hotel @ maramures I will skip Maramures since it is not enough time benefit from its beauty and I will go instead from Sibiu to Cluj-Napoca with a sort stop in ALba Iulia and stay for one and a half day in CLuj (Botanic Garden may be a good option for relaxing)

1/5
-sightseeing of maramures
**Night train from "Baia Mare" to Iasi - I will be in CLuj and in the night there are trains from Cluj to Iasi so you may arrive in Iasi the nest early morning

2/5
-Arriving Iasi 6:30 am
-Iasi sightseeing
-train from Iasi to Galati 18:30 - 23:00
**Hotel @ Galati

3/5
-Galati city visit - Do not spend to much time in Galati - not much to see
-Morning Bus to Tulcea
- Ferry in the Danube Delta for (leave from Tulcea at midday, come back the next morning)--- More info is required ??

4/5
-Come back to Tulcea - I will spend this day also in the Danube but of course it depends on the time of your departure from Bucharest. The train from Constanta to Bucharest takes 2.5 - 3 hours.
-Evening bus to Constanta
**Hotel@ constanta

5/5
-Constanta to Bucharest
-Bucharist to the END of ........... :))

If you want a place to stay in Bucharest just let me know, although there is a chance to be in vacation since the Orthodox Easter will be on 5th of May this year.

Best,
Andrei

I would also cut Galati, it is not that interesting.

Instead, you should go to Suceava county and/or Neamt County as they are quite close to Iasi.

In Suceava County: you should visit some of the very interesting traditional Egg Museums - they are really, really intersting, you would not imagine what people all around the world can do with eggs + 1-2 monasteries that contain a lot of our history.

In Neamt County: traditional masks museum (it is impressive), Neamtului Citadel and Neamt Monastery, etc.

While being in Sighisoara, depending on your means of transportation, you could visit some medieval fortified churches and you can also spend the night over there. They are in UNESCO World Heritage and you will like them.
BTW, I would not stay in Hotel Sighisoara, but in some other place (cheaper and with more local flavor), try some small guest house / local people's house.

For not spamming this list, if you want a more detailed plan of my ideas and some tips abour hosting places, send me an email and I will reply (florin@drumliber.ro).
