I just arrived in Kathmandu and have decided to stick around for a while. I'm working and living at a sweet guesthouse which is away from touristic Thamel. If any of you are in the same boat as me (looking for a place to stay for longer than most hosts are willing to accomodate), let me know and I can show you around!
We're in Ekuntakana, just 5 minutes past Jawalakhel, and are close to close to funky restaurants, wifi cafes, shops and public transport. There are 9 rooms total- some of them have en suite bathrooms and some are shared. We all share a kitchen, a huge sunny rooftop and a soon-to-be-beautified backyard. Hot water, power and wifi are all included and you can stay by the week or month.
Anyway, I'm done blabbing, but let me know if you're interested (or you can also check things out here: http://www.9roomsnepal.com/
). It would be awesome to be living with other CSers!
I recently accepted a job in Kathmandu and will probably move there right after xmas or maybe before. I'm going to be working somewhere near the Shangri La hotel, do you know how far is that? and is it accessible by public transport?
Hi! I'm sorry to say that you'll be working on the other side of town if you're going to be near the Shangri La hotel. You'll probably be able to find accommodation much closer- you'd have a bit of a trek to get there from here every day. You can take an easy bus about halfway there (to a place called Ratna Park), but then you'd have about a 20-30 minute walk ahead of you still. I don't want to send you away, but in all honesty you can probably find a different place that will fit your needs better. I'd recommend joining the Kathmandu google group (https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/ktmktm
), because people are always posting about accommodations there. If you'd like to meet up when you get here, give me a shout here or at 980-347-9858.
Best of luck with the move!
Hello .. Lia, how's your stay at Kathmandu so far?is it a safe place to travel around ? as i might travel to Kathmandu from India around February 2013 .. wondering about the local condition as i'm first timer!
and 9Rooms looks really good.but they might not wan me as im just there for 3 days =/ looking for a budget and clean accommodation ..
Oops, should have replied to both of these in one. Sorry for potentially jamming inboxes!
Kathmandu has been great, I've definitely felt safe here - no problems at all so far. I admit I've only been here a few weeks but it has been perfectly fine. I'm glad you think our place looks good! Yeah, our shortest stays are for a week, so we might not be the best fit, but if you decide to stay a bit longer let me know! :)

Awesome! Let me know when you settle on an arrival date so I can make sure there are still rooms available. I'll be here until May, so definitely give me a shout.
