Best Bike shop/club ?
Posted November 16th, 2012 - 6:20 am by from Vancouver, Canada (Permalink)
Hola,

I am a cyclist from Canada. I find like minded people in and around bike shops/clubs so I would like to check out and chat with people in the bike shops/clubs of Mexico City.

What shops are the most useful?

Thank you.
Holly

Hola Holy,

I too got myself a bike altough everyone except my dutch rommie told it would be too dangerous. And yes it considerably more dangerous... Still I dont wanna miss my bike. It is a delight passing through cars when are stuck in the everyday traffic jams (:

Concerning groups, there is this group right here and there also is a facebook group:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/131743450180529/?ref=ts&fref=ts

Where to get your bike: There is a street closes to the metro Merced that is dedicated to bike venders its called San Pablo. When you go, you probably should not go alone or at least not in the dark. I may take you if you like, just pass me a pm or your phone number (ive got whatsapp)...

Apart from that there is mercadolibre.com.mx. Second hand bikes you can find here, but to my experience its kind of hard to arrange via that page. Plus it is said to include many stolen bikes which leads me to my next point.

Buy a good lock! Bikes are a warmly welcome subject to thefts. Also I would advise you to wear a helmet. I wear a helmet again for the first time in 15 years or so.

Hope I could help a little,
Malte

Hi im Jorge from México city and i think my city is starting to improve a bike culture of movility. Each Sunday morning the main avenue called Reforma close for cars and for a few hours the bikers can spend a popular sunday biking.
There are many crews around the city and they organize their own roads and also each month there is a special road called ¨Paseo de todos¨ is when all the teams bike together.

PASEO DE TODOS PROFILE: (you can check the next date in their profile)

We have a public bike service but you should have a card member, we pay for that service one time per year. And also in downtown there are special modules that provides to everyone a bike for a few time.

And now a days you can find so many bikeshops around the city i will give you some sites that you can check them, and also there is a popular small shops and some times are cheaper , they are in downtown, the nearest subway station is PINOSUAREZ and you can ask to someone for the exactly location.

Aboout the sites:

If you have another question about it, please do it but i hope that info can help you and of course you could enjoy your visit to my country :) hugs

Hi! You can ride almost every day in a Tipical Mass like rides! There are a lot of groups that do that at night. Most famous are the bicitekas that gather wendesdays at 9:00 pm

Also you can find lots of spares and bike gear at Méxicos downtown (Merced/San Pablo area).
And the best of all: México city its the best place to ride safe. We have lots of bike paths!!!
Saludos!!!
