Sailing to Senegal January 2013
Posted December 8th, 2012 - 3:47 pm by from Washington, United States (Permalink)
Hello,

I am looking for a boat heading to Senegal anytime in January or Febuary 2013. I can leave from anywhere along the Atalantic coast from Morocco to the UK. I have little experiecne boating but I am an excellent cook and specialize in one pot, low cost meals.

Does anybody have any advice about where to head out from or where to go to meet people? Any advice would be very helpful and much appreciated!

Thanks!

I wish I could give you more positive info.

Mostly French boats go to Senegal. When we were in The Gambia we saw no other sailboats. At the moment, your best bet may be going from the Cape Verdes, which means hitching down there first. Check the other posts about that, maybe La Gomera or Las Palmas in the Canaries. I didn't see other sailboats in Morocco when we were there. People hole up for the winter in Tunis and It's too late to leave. You might phone the marinas in Gibraltar to see who's there, but it's a long shot.

If you have access to Single Sideband radio and speak French, check these broadcast:

Le Reseau du Capitaine 14.119 1100 UTC (GMT)
French Cruisers/Weather Net 6945.0 1200 UTC Maurice

This is an English speaking boat. They are already in Senegal, but hey, stalk people backwards to learn the routes.

this looks like they left from the Canarian island of Las Palmas.
