Bringing guitar on Ryan Air flight
Posted January 25th, 2013 - 1:49 pm by from Bergen, Norway (Permalink)
I have found loads of cheap tickets from Sevilla to Tenerife and I am preparing to leave Spain for something a little more comfortable. I want to leave my backpack behind in Spain since I have no use for it and just travel with a guitar bag from now on.

My problem is I am afraid of being told that I can not bring the guitar once I am at the airport. Does anyone have experience with this? I would prefer to bring the guitar into the airplane, because I do not trust them to treat it gently. Maybe I could buy two tickets and have the guitar sit in the seat next to me?

rayanair states..

Smaller musical items such as a cello, guitar, violin or viola which exceed our cabin baggage dimensions may be carried in the cabin if a seat for it has been reserved and the appropriate fare paid. There is no checked or cabin baggage allowance associated with the purchase of an extra seat. To book an extra seat for an item the word "ITEM SEAT" must be entered as the surname and "EXTRA" must be entered at the first name. EXTRA ITEM SEAT will then be displayed on the reservation and online boarding pass. The accompanying passenger's travel document details must be entered during the online check- in process.
