How to get grom Zacatecas to Matehuala?
Posted November 22nd, 2012 - 2:42 pm by from Saint Petersburg, Russia (Permalink)
Hello everybody!
I am going to travel in Mexico in January and planning my trip. One of the places I want to visit is Real de Catorce. I will be going from Zacatecas direction. But the problem is that I can't find any bus going from Zacatecas to Matehuala. Is there any direct option to do that?

And by the way if anybody will be around there travelling around middle-end of January I will be happy to get in touch. After Real de 14 I am going south to Guanajuato, Puebla, Oaxaca, Canon del Sumidero, San Cristobal de las Casas, Palenque, Tulum, Playa del Carmen and back to Mexico city from Cancun. Would be great to have a company!

Hello Tatiana:

It's simple you have to grab a bus from Zacatecas to San Luis Potosi city and from there you grab the other one to Matehuala and from Matehuala I imagine there is one to real de 14.

No direct bus to do that .

If you go to guanajuato and have enough time Morelia is kind of near and it's a really nice city to see a UNESCO heritage of the world city. But really our state is not that known but we have a lot to offer to visitors read about it MICHOACAN. Also the monarch butterfly will be around by the dates that you are here in Mexico and that just happens once per year so check it up and start getting excited we are not as big as russia but it's a big country :-) so many things to do so many things to learn and so many things to enjoy :-).

Privet, Josue!

I have been excited for a while already! Yes, so many things to see, and every place is unique! So I really regret that I don't have at least half a year for this trip :)

Thank you for your advice! Yes I will be in Morelia! but only for one day (I am afraid) on my way from Ciudad de Mexico to a small village Colola on a pacific coast. I will stay there for volunteer work. This is also a question how I will get to Colola from Morelia since I guess there is no direct bus as well :) I am not sure that I will have time to see butterflies unfortunately...but we'll see...

Privet again :-) Tatiana :

No problem from here I know two ways of going there, I've been to cololas workcamp a couple of times to see the turtles and chill out a bit :-). Half year is still little time lol there is never enough time to discover Mexico :-).

You have a couch if you need it and depending on the date you come here a traveler guide to show you the city.

There is an overnight bus that takes you to Tecoman and from there you gran the bus that takes you to colola really early in the morning the camp is before the village so you need to ask the driver to leave you right there unles you like to walk under the happy sun a few kilometer :-) with all your stuff.

I think that is the best way to get there the other one would be to go from here to Lazaro Cardenas and then another bus that takes you to Colola and this would have to be during the day and there are a lot of curves.

about prices I'm not sure but those are the two options.

So relax and smile :-) you'll have fun for sure :-).

poka

Hola Josue!

Thanks a lot for the information!

I think I will be in Morelia on 1st of January (if I manage to catch a bus from Mexico City on the 1st in the morning) That would be nice to meet if you are around that day :)

Adios

Hola Tatiana

It is correct,, the easiest is going to San Luis Potosi, and there you take a bus to Matehuala. Matehuala is a small town, and you won't find many direct options. I recomend you to visit Matehuala, it will take you three hours, the food is great and super cheap. But if you don't have enough time, try the tacos in front the bus station, they are the best, I memorize the way to go for that tacos from my home in Mexico City.

I wish you a great journey. Godspeed.

Hola Miguel!

Yes I think I will it that way. And thanks for the tacos tips :)

I will be in Mexico City for couple of days at the very end of the year. Tell me please how is it at New Yeas Eve? Is it a big celebration in Mexico? Because here in Russia it's the main holiday of the year! Will I be able to take a bus to Morelia in the morning on the 1st of January?

Gracias por la ayuda :)
