Hola, gente! :) I'm plannning a trip to Mexico from the 24th of January till the 7th of February (Mexico city (24-26), Oaxaca (27-29), San-Cristobal (30-1), Palenque (2), Merida(3), Cancun(4-7)). I'm going there alone and would be super happy to find a travel buddy or a local person to show me around. If you can give me some tips about this places (of any kind: what to see, what to eat, what to avoid), I'll also be very grateful.
And happy New Year to everyone! :)
¡Feliz año nuevo!

I can't join you but I will offer some advice, as a person who just finished a 2 month trip to mexico which included almost all of the places you mentioned: I think you'll enjoy the trip a lot more if you choose fewer locations and spend more time in each one. How are you traveling? Buses are expensive in mexico, and most of those rides are 6-12 hours each. I don't know how fixed your plans are, but I would say choose 2 or maybe 3 places and stay for 5 or 6 days in each. Oaxaca and San Cristobal were my favorites in mexico - lots of culture and history, great food and people. Really inexpensive, too. In Oaxaca they have these things called tlayudas, theyre awesome - eat some! And be sure to have mole too. They also have great hot chocolate in Oaxaca and Chiapas. Also, San Cristobal is quite cold so I hope you brought a jacket. I hope this helps you and feel free to message me if you have any questions. Buen viaje!

Dear Thomas, thanks a lot for your reply!
Yes, I thought, that, probably, all these places are a bit too much for 2 weeks. But in any case I'm going to come to Cancun (after 2 months of Russian winter I need a couple of days on a beach :) ) and I've already bought a flight ticket from there :( So, I could only save one day for San Cristobal or Oaxaca, skipping Palenque or Merida... How do you think, which of them is less worth visiting?
Checked tlayudas on Google - they are definately in my to-do list, thank you! :)

Wish you a very happy New Year!

It's really hard to suggest what to skip. Both are beautiful but to visit Merida you would need more than two days to see all the "must see" things (cenotes, haciendas, downtown and small villages or towns nearby), so I would say skip Mérida and stay more in Palenque or around there.
Have a nice trip ;)

I did almost the same route (Acapulco & Puerto Escondido instead of Oaxaca and Campeche instead of Merida) with a friend November.
Like Thomas said, San Cristobal is really nice, one of the most colorful cities we saw. Palenque is also very very good. We saw the ruins of Teotihuacan, Palenque, Chichen Itza and Tulum in Mexico, but Palenque was by far my favourite, don't miss it! Less tourist, more diversity in buildings and great nature. We even saw some monkeys swinging by :)
Oh and Cancun didn't really do it for me, mostly because I'm not that much into parties or the regular touristy stuff.
