Cheap Thanksgiving Weekend Cruise to Panama anyone...?
Posted October 18th, 2012 - 8:43 pm by from Toronto, Canada (Permalink)
Hi All!

I thought that I would share this. If you are looking for a last minute cheap travel idea for thanksgiving...

I just booked my first cruise, ever. Mainly because the price is $100! (All in it is about $200)

November 22 - 25, Miami to Panama, one way, repositioning. Royal Caribbean. I booked via vacationstogo.com - I think that I paid a few dollars less than actually booking via RC... (NOTE: This is not an ad. I have no financial benefits with either company.)

I also booked a one way flight back to FLL via Spirit Air ($160). All in all, a very cheap trip.

I am travelling solo. If anyone wants to come along for the budget travel fun of it, let me know!

I will be driving south down the East Coast (A DriveAway, also a budget travel idea) from Toronto. I might be able to offer someone a lift to the Port of Miami.

Safe Travels!

Dave

Hello

Thank you for the quick follow up.

I'm not sure why you are not able to find it. I just double checked and the offer that I booked is still up on the RC site.

Where did you look?

Seems too good to be true, flights to S America are around 1000$ right now and I assume a flight from Panama to Peru is cheap? When are you driving down the east coast? I'm in NYC

It does seem crazy cheap, doesn't it? Interior staterooms are still available. For $147.90 taxes included.

I splurged and paid an extra $30 for an ocean view stateroom. I'm kinda excited about this mode of transport to Central America. I've never done the cruise thing before.

Apparently, there are cheap boats from Panama to Columbia and Peru that can be organized from the hostels in Panama City. If I had more time I would do that, too!

If you are ready to travel to Central America by ship ( who DOES that anymore?! Oh, I do... ) I am leaving Toronto November 17 or 18. The Grandeur Of The Seas disembarks November 22 at 4PM...

Do you have an exact link for the tickets? Too strange, I planned on flying out on the 22nd. If this is real, I am coming!

Oh it is real!
Try searching the ship "Grandeur Of The Seas" in the Find a Cruise section at royalcaribbean.com ...

or call Pierce Osborne, Travel Counselor, Vacations To Go,
posborne@vacationstogo.com 800-338-4962 ext. 7717 - That's where I booked my ticket.

Yo! Dave!
FYI I'll be in Miami from Nov 16-19... Let's try to catch up!
Coincidentally, I'm doing a cruise too! Hahahahaha, nov 19-22 back to Philly on the 24

ANDRES!

That is too funny! I would love to catch up. Haven't seen you in way too long! I will try to make it to Miami by the 19th - but it might be tough. I'm not leaving Toronto until late on the 17th at the earliest ... Too bad we're not on the same cruise!

Holy Crap.

Not only are there still suites available, RC is offering FREE UPGRADES to exteriors. Get a window for the price of a closet!
I should have waited to book....

Just a tip from a seasoned cruiser. I'm usually on 7-day cruises. I take boxes of wine in a checked bag (unlocked) and drink my own alcohol the entire cruise. DON'T carry on your alcohol and DON'T lock the checked bag. My brother-in-law locked his bag and he had to go to the crew to get it unlocked and they confiscated his alcohol. I normally take 3 boxes of Franzia because you can break down the box and put the bag in the little fridge in the room. (We normally have 40+ family including 14 or so 20 year olds on our cruises.) Rebuild the box and voila you have a way to use the wine and the spigot it comes with. Use your imagination and enjoy the cruise a little more frugally. We all meet at my room with your wine glass from your own cabin and take a drink to dinner. I haven't tried to take beer. Make delicious hot tea and then serve over ice in the outdoor cafe. The tea is fine in the dining rooms. Take larger insulated cups for the pool because their cups are very little. I also take a case of water for port excursions. You can take large luggage because they store under your bed by your room steward or in another closet somewhere. I guess you'll only be on a 3-day cruise with no stopping at ports so I guess you won't be gone very long. I figure the cost of buying alcohol in the States before the cruise is so inexpensive compared to buying drinks on the cruise ship that confiscation is minimal if it happens. I've never lost any of my stash. Good luck and have a fun and safe trip. I want to cruise on a repositioning cruise some day. Too busy to join you this time since I just retired.
