Cs brew club
Posted December 2nd, 2012 - 2:43 am by from Templemore, Ireland (Republic of) (Permalink)
Hey I'm new to craft brewing and about to buy some equipment. And get started, was wondering if anyone is interested in starting up a cs brew club where people can come learn the basics or share their knowledge and swap and trade some good beers and times,if we get enough interested people we could organize weekly meet ups,so who's in??

Posted December 2nd, 2012 - 3:10 am by from Vancouver, Canada (Permalink)
Weekly is likely a bit too often, but I'm happily brewing my own beer now. It's pretty easy to do. Dan's brewing supplies is the best starting point.

I am definitely in! Maybe if we don't have enough people to meet weekly about brewing and whatnot we can at least get a weekly meetup at some pub like Bierkraft or St. Augustines or Alibi. I just moved in and got my brewery successfully transported and set up. In fact, planning a brew day tomorrow. But i love this idea!

Either way, i think we need to breath some life into this group and regular meetings will do just that! BOOM!

Ya maybe every two weeks a proper meeting and perhaps a craft beer appreciation night for consuming beer in between, but ya I think there's a lot of potential to get this going and share ideas and help other beginners set up.

Hey mark if I could observe you brewing up a batch that would be great, really wanna start trying a bunch of different recipes once I'm set up!

Hey all,

I'm moving up to Vancouver from Seattle next week and would love to meet with fellow beer enthusiasts, share brewing skills, and hit up some local pubs/bars/breweries. I plan on bringing up my brewing supplies on my move as well.

I'm a bit nervous that there will not be as many great local brews and down to earth bars in Vancouver as i'm used to in Seattle, so please allay my fears and prove me wrong!

Definitely count me in on any regular meet ups.

Hey I'm in for this meetup too. The local vancouver brewing group doesn't seem very active, and it would be nice to meet with other homebrewers.

Timothy, I think you will be a little disappointed with Vancouver's selection, from what I hear about Seattle. But there are still some fine places to go to around here. (And I suggest you bring some of your more preferred beer with you too. We don't have quite the selection of all the great craft brews from the states up here, sad to say.)

And Thomas, have you brewed a batch yet? Got any brewing goals for 2013?

Posted January 7th, 2013 - 8:03 pm by from Vancouver, Canada (Permalink)
Hey Tim and Cameron!

Nice to virtually meet you.

Cam- you are def right. This craft beer group is lacking suds... but we can be the catalyst. Thomas and i were discussing it before the holidays and i think once we get regular meetings on the calendar people will start to come out of the woodwork.

Tim - i just moved from norcal myself and there is a definite adjustment. However there are several places that have plenty of US craft on tap. It isn't as extensive as we are prob used to however I have discovered some some breweries right here in east van that are doing some awesome stuff!

I will try to brew twice a month so happy to host a gathering - even a group brew!!! That would be awesome! I am in the process of building a 6 tap keezer so will hope to have plenty of brew on tap in the next month.

Hello! We don't know a ton about brewing beer but we know what tastes good and would both love to participate in a CS beer night! Sounds fun/ tasty!

Timothy, Seattle is an amazing city but don't worry, you're going to love Vancouver!!

I agree with ya Mark.. East Van has some great beer (and food) spots!

Looking forward to a meet up :)

Well it looks like there are at least 5 people interested in some sort of craft beer/homebrewing meetup. I'm happy to meet some time this month on a friday or weekend. How's that?

Posted January 8th, 2013 - 8:33 pm by from Vancouver, Canada (Permalink)
Sounds like a plan! We can easily meet at a rotating pub or someone's place and we all bring 1-2 beers for tasting. Sort of like a pot luck but more like (insert beer pun here). I can host a decent number of people (6-10) if we choose that route.

We could also list all the places we love and ones we want to try and then put them in a hat and randomly draw a new place for our bi-weekly toast.

What do people think about this Fri/Sat night?

Posted January 8th, 2013 - 8:34 pm by from Vancouver, Canada (Permalink)
and should have my rainy day pale on tap by the weekend so....

I think that sounds great! A mix of group brewing and beerlucks and hitting up new/favorite bars on a regular basis would be a lot of fun. Weekends work, but evenings during the week work as well. I won't be able to this weekend, as that's when i am moving, but anything after that works for me.

I look forward to meeting you all.

This all sounds great! Love the "beerluck" idea!! Both of us have a crazy schedule and most times we have weekdays off and if we're lucky, weekends. Let us know when you guys want to meet and we might be able to work around it :)

I wouldn't want to crash and then take over someone's pina colada party with beer... But I'd be ok with going out or meeting up friday evening.

Hey all,

Hope you had the chance to get together on Friday and i'm looking forward to the next time everyone meets up! Anyone have suggestions for good home brew stores? Back in Seattle home brewing was just a fun hobby, here in Vancouver I feel like it'll become an economic necessity!!

As far as I know Dan's Homebrew Supply (Hastings, Van) is the best place to go that specializes in Beer brewing. But they're nothing spectacular.

There's also this place that I've never been to, but their website says the have a fair selection. They're in South Burnaby.

Second the recommendation of Dan's. Their hours are sometimes inconvenient and the guys working there have a businesslike brusqueness that may or may not bother you, but the location is great and they have everything you need. You might be able to find cheaper equipment on Craigslist; it seems like people frequently try the hobby and then give up on it.
